In this video: [1] there is an article from 1877 with a recipe for this food specifically 'the jewell county monitor 1877 oct 11' but I cannot find a freely accessible version of this to verify. Could something be changed? Uncleleech (talk) 12:18, 24 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Library of Congress's Chronicling America is an excellent source for old American newspapers that can be read freely online. Advanced Search > phrase potato doughnuts > year range 1789 to 1877 and sort results by date (if there's many). The oldest relevant hit finds these letters to the editor in the Chicago Daily Tribune:
Published August 25, 1877 (p. 11) – Mrs. W. P. H. of Chicago requested a recipe for doughnuts because hers were too greasy. [2]
Published September 22, 1877 (p. 10) – Grandma Detslau of Burlington, Iowa, replied with the recipe shown in the video. [3]
