Updated Postal Crisis Draft

[edit]

Hey, Wikipedia! I'm Jonathan, a United States Postal Service employee who has come to this Talk page to strengthen and update this article. If you would like to know more about my presence here, my full conflict-of-interest disclosure is on my user page.

I wanted to start by proposing updates to the Postal service crisis section. The current version of the section covers concerns about how the Postal Service might perform in the (then-upcoming) elections, but doesn't close the loop on what eventually happened with the Postal Service's handling of registrations, mail-in ballots, etc. It also groups claims together in ways that, in my opinion, render the order of events slightly difficult to follow. I have composed a revised draft for the section, which you can review on a subsection of my user page. In short, my revised draft:

  • Moves some existing content from the present tense into the past tense, since the section is about recent history, not ongoing events
  • Reorganizes the section slightly, so that events flow chronologically
  • Cleans up a handful of existing citation templates
  • Adds news sourcing, in a couple of necessary spots
  • Adds a brief new subsection about Postal Service performance in the election

Because I have a COI, I've studied Wikipedia's content guidelines and tried to ensure that I'm following all the relevant rules. I believe what I've put forward here is up to snuff, but I'm totally open to feedback. If any editors have thoughts or would like to help me make these changes, please let me know. Thanks! I unfortunately haven't had much luck finding editors to review this request. I've gone to a few WikiProjects and spoken to a few individual editors, to no avail. I'm going to tap user:Beland, who has expressed some interest, as well as User:Numberguy6 and User:Losipov, who have contributed meaningfully to this article in the past. No pressure, but if any of you could help me out, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks, everybody! Jonathan with U.S. Postal Service (talk) 21:08, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
 Done Thank you very much for your contributions. CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {CX}) 12:05, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciate the help, User:CX Zoom! Would it be possible to add a paraphrase of a sentence from this subsection to the end of the article's introduction? Maybe something like:
"The Postal Service handled approximately 135 million pieces of election-related mail between September 1st and November 3rd of 2020, delivering the vast majority of these materials on time."
Let me know if you think that's reasonable. Thanks again! Jonathan with U.S. Postal Service (talk) 18:34, 31 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
 Done. Thanks again! CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {CX}) 19:16, 31 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
