Adding History
[edit]I'm adding some history. The people should know what this city is and please don't delete it. Take it from me I live in this tired, dusty city. Spongefan, 3:01 July 13, 2006 (UTC)
Correction on the mural artist from Daffner to Dafford.
Shoot I didn't log in. This is stege1. Someone should do an article on the floodwalls.
If anyone has any info on the Steel-shoes or Redsbirds please upload it.
This is a very good article about Portsmouth, however the source you sited about Portsmouth's population being 50K in 1907 is wrong. According to the 1900 U.S. Census the population of Portsmouth was 17,870. The total population for Scioto County was only 40,981. Portsmouth's population peaked in 1930 at 42,560 according to the U.S. Census. It is also my opinion that the city's decline was also due in part to the development of the Interstate Highway system. Portsmouth's industries as of much of Appalachia found themselves isolated because no interstate highways were built in the region. Because of this they could not complete with cheaper transportation costs when the shipping of goods and products moved from rail to trucks. In order to complete industry had to move out of the Portsmouth area and move to cities connected to the interstate system. I thought you might want to know this because the article is put together so well. -ldmullins —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ldmullins1958 (talk • contribs) 18:13, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Drug epidemic
[edit]I've started a section on the drug addiction problem that has plagued the city for the last decade. I am asking for help to keep this section well cited and maintained. Unsourced material, WP:OR, speculation, etc will be removed. The problem there is bad enough. Heiro 21:31, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
- This section is the longest, by a significant factor. Is this the biggest and most important item to describe this small city? Should there be a standalone article for "Appalachian prescription drug epidemic", rather than this huge section in the Portsmouth article, which makes this one small city seem the worst on planet earth? I also note that the freshest reference is a stale 4 1/2 years old. This is not meant to belittle this critical issue - just looking for a bit more concise section, a bit more balance vis the rest of the article, and current updates.
