Memorial at Find a Grave

[edit]

Hello. Somebody found a grave in the Greenwood Cemetery of Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania for a certain Porter Granger, born on October 22, 1891 in Kentucky and dead on October 30, 1948 in Pittsburgh, the son of James Granger and Pearl Holmes: see Porter Granger at Find a Grave. Regards, Xavier 90.13.92.21 (talk) 08:00, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The death certificate referred to at FindaGrave seems absolutely authentic to me. It has been listed as "Granger Porter" - which probably explains why it has not been found previously. It gives the details of Porter Granger [sic], colored, musician, separated, born in Kentucky on October 22, 1891. His parents' names are given as James Granger and Pearl Holmes. His death is reported on October 30, 1948, due to "pneumonitis, due to dentures lodging in trachea", which is recorded as an accident. He died at home, 1300 Wylie Ave., Pittsburgh, and was buried on November 3, 1948, at Greenwood Cemetery. I realise that primary sources should not be used but in this case I think an exception can be made, as the evidence is overwhelmingly convincing. The source is Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission; Harrisburg, PA; Pennsylvania (State). Hello. Yes, when there is a lack of secondary sources, or when they are too imprecise or conflicting, primary ones aren't so bad ;-) Thanks for the update. Regards, Xavier 90.56.173.60 (talk) 08:07, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
