Question about language requirement

Since English verbal skills are tested for entrance, it suggests a question about how many (if any) courses are taught in English. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vinh1000 (talkcontribs) 11:08, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:PUPLogo.PNG

Image:PUPLogo.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Expansion

Polytechnic University of the Philippines, needs further expansion. It has a very little information. Also unorganized, it always denotes about Manila campus only. It should be considered as a system User:Adkranz

I agree. Though PUP Manila is popular being the PUP, PUP alone should stand as an entity of all PUP branches not the Manila branch ONLY. It should garner information of all PUP System as PUP itself is a sytem. It is so selfish to consider that PUP is being changed to PUP Manila for the sole reason of popularity. Axxand SPEAK ACT 07:10, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

The PUP article is very disorganized. Please rename this page as Polytechnic University of the Philippines System (not redirect), and rename PUP Manila as Polytechnic University of the Philippines. Formal naming conventions of Philippine universities and colleges states that main campuses adhere to the institutions' generic name (see state colleges and universities#naming conventions). UP System is an exemption, because each campuses are of equal standing with each other. If we'll continue to use PUP for the system and PUP Manila for the main campus, it seems like PUP Main is just like the different PUP campuses. PUP Main (or what you call PUP Manila) is the PUP itself. Also, it doesn't have the same standing as other campuses since its is the Main and the most important entity of the university. It's just the university has extension campuses and branches. If you want to have an article for the whole system, please rename this one as PUP System, because PUP and PUP Manila are tantamount with each other. See the conventions used by University of Michigan, Mindanao State University and University of Washington. PUP Manila is not recognized by CHED as the official name for the PUP main campus. It should be simply called PUP in formal documents, except for satellite campuses. It is the same convention used by other philippine universities and colleges. The article PUP and PUP Manila create confusion for others, because they will think that PUP Manila is just a branch of PUP. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Isko1901 (talkcontribs) 11:22, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

The debate regarding the deletion of the article Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Manila has been closed and the decision is to merge the said article with the main Polytechnic University of the Philippines article. 121.54.54.47 (talk) 04:32, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Colleges

I think the colleges section of the article has undergone constant vandalism from some editors. Please refrain from adding the College of Health Sciences and Technology because there is no such unit within PUP. And also, please note that the respective departments of each college are presented. Stop putting degree programs because it doesn't comply with Wikipedia standards. Thanks! Isko1901 (talk) 16:22, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Sub campuses?

Three sub-campuses named Mabini, NDC and M.H. del Pilar. How it work? I think its just a HALL or building. Besides its located in same location. Does it located in separate nearby location?

Bonvallite (talk) 12:29, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Sir, apparently, PUP Manila is composed of three separate campuses. Although, these group campuses is considered as one according to the PUP System.

Unibersidad or Pamantasan?

Apparently, there is a great confusion about the use of the Filipino word for University. It should be Pamantasan and not Unibersidad. It is possible that Wikipedian users here use the word Unibersidad for it matches a university's acronym better (e.g. Unibersidad ng Santo Tomas (University of Santo Tomas) than Pamantasan ng Santo Tomas (UST); Polyteknikong Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (Polytechnic University of the Philippines) rather than Polyteknikong Pamantasan ng Pilipinas (PUP)).

Regards!

--112.200.194.124 (talk) 11:49, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

That is the case, and as a matter of convention we use unibersidad if it matches the acronym, unless the university uses otherwise. If I were to be pedantic on grammar, then it should be "Pamantasang Politekniko ng Pilipinas", if we are to insist on using pamantasan instead of unibersidad. --Sky Harbor (talk) 03:45, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

The article seems to be off to a good start, but still has quite a ways to go. Some comments:

  • Generally, the lead section should summarize the article (see: WP:LEAD) and any of the information there that is cited should be in the body of the article. The cited information needs to be incorporated into the rest of the text.
  • History section: "PSC's campus lot size is inadequate and therefore school authorities intensified its plans and proposals to acquire a new lot and on July 1947, PSC move to its new campus located at Lepanto Street (now S. H. Loyola Street) in Sampaloc, Manila." -- This changes from past to present tense a few times.
  • Something is wrong with this sentence: "He failed to obtained an outstanding rating as the University President and therefore his term was not renewed."
  • At its current location, the campus map is very disruptive. It needs to be made smaller or moved somewhere else to make the page easier to navigate.
  • The "Philosophy" section isn't necessary.
  • The student life section is insufficient. What kinds of student organizations are there? Surely there is more to the student culture of the university than sports and protesting.
  • You note the athletics mascot of the university, but which sports do they play? How does their team perform? This information is necessary.
  • There are a lot of opinions in the article that would need citing. Examples:
    • "The campus is easy to navigate despite its massive size."
    • "Among the best-known people who have attended the Polytechnic University of the Philippines are ..."
  • References needed:
    • "Improvements for the university continued up to present day with new colleges being added and the construction of several university facilities. When Dr. Samuel M. Salvador became the Officer-in-Charge/Acting President of the university, he spearheaded the rehabilitation of all PUP campuses and constructed the Dr. Nemesio E. Prudente Freedom Park (Freedom Plaza), in honor of Prudente and his accomplishments. Salvador's administration mainly focused on the preparation of the upcoming centenary of the university."
    • "The campus of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines is located at Santa Mesa, Manila and it lies on the banks of Pasig River comprising an area of 48 acres (0.2 km2). The school originally lies at S.H. Loyola Street in Sampaloc, Manila before it transferred to the Santa Mesa campus on 1971."
    • "As the campus of a large university, PUP has many facilities that serve not only the school, but the entire city. Venues inside the campus that the public can use include the university gymnasium, the amphitheater, the Luntiang Pilipinas Forest Park (popularly known as Intramuros Park), the Apolinario Mabini Shrine and Museum, an auditorium, the Hasmin Hotel, and several public parking lots."
    • "The campus also encompasses a number of residential areas and many students claim a sense of solidarity with the residents of these immediate communities. "
    • "The campus is served by a railway station and has its own ferry station."
    • "The university operates on three campuses located throughout Manila: the A. Mabini Campus (Teresa Street), the NDC Compound Campus (Pureza Street) and the M.H. del Pilar Campus (Nagtahan Avenue)."
    • "University Centers headquartered in the campus are: the Charlie del Rosario Development Center, the ICT Center, the Ninoy Aquino Learning Resources Center and the University Center for Culture and the Arts. Sports facilities located inside the campus are: the P.E. Building, an olympic-size swimming pool, the gymnasium, and the outdoor courts of basketball, volleyball and badminton."
    • Landmarks located within the campus are an outdoor amphitheater, The Obelisk, a ecumenical chapel and a ferry station. Parks and plazas found inside the campus are: the Nemesio E. Prudente Freedom Park, the Luntiang Pilipinas Forest Park, the student pavilion and a park facing the ecumenical chapel.
    • The XYZ Building, commonly known as the PUP Main Building (because of the South Wing Building inclusion), is situated at the southeast of the campus facing the Nemesio E. Prudente Freedom Park. It is divided into four buildings: North Wing, South Wing, East Wing, and the West Wing.
    • In terms of infrastructure, the campus has more than 20 buildings and a developed network of roads and quadrangles. The campus is easy to navigate despite its massive size.
    • The table of PUP units by year founded.
    • "The College of Education, established in 1904 as a program in Business Education, is considered the oldest college and is the predecessor of all the university's degree-granting units. In contrast, the recently established colleges are the College of Accountancy and Finance and the College of Arts and Letters, both of which are the products of the reorganization that was enacted on 2012 which also renamed several colleges."
    • Everything in the "Research" section
    • Everything in the "Student life and culture" section
    • "Persons affiliated to the university, either as students, faculty members, or administrators, are known as "PUPians". Individually, students at the university are known as "Iskolar ng Bayan" which translates in English as (the) Nation's Scholar."
    • "Liezel Garcia, Mark Logan, Richard Gomez, Steve Dailisan and Tado Jimenez."
  • There are several dozen duplicate links and external links which would need fixing.
  • Reference #7 is not working.
  • Reference #28: The link is dead.
  • Finally, the article would need a copy-edit for some form of fluent English, as it unfortunately seems to have a number of prose problems.

As I said, the article is off to a good start, but it needs a lot of improvement. The "History" section is good, but the "Campus" and "Notable People" sections need more citations, and the "Student life" section needs a lot more information. As I do not believe these drastic changes can be achieved in a short amount of time, I must say that the article can not easily achieve GA-level of quality. If these improvements are, the article can be renominated. —Ed!(talk) 11:59, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

Merger with PUP College of Education

The PUP College of Education hence made a history and contribution to the university so it deserves its own page. As a prestigious, premiere and oldest college I think it deserves a page that will deliver information to its students. Other colleges and universities also obtain information in this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.57.37.123 (talk) 03:08, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Requesting for semi-protection

It seems that several IP addresses have contributed in promoting (a) political (student) organization(s?) in PUP. Because of this I am requesting that this article be semi-protected, so that only registered users can edit it, no one can promote their school organizations, and only verified material can be added to its content.

Not done: requests for increases to the page protection level should be made at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. Cannolis (talk) 07:45, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

Changing the images to current ones

I would like to know if I can change the two current images: File:Manila-santa mesa-pup campus - gate and pylon (2013).jpg and File:PUP CEA edifice.jpg with the images I just took this year. The front view to make it more clear, and the gate without too many people (seems to be too crowded). If you all agree, I would like to change.

Here are my images that I've uploaded: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:PUP_Engineering_and_Architecture_Building_Front_view.jpg

Thank you. Fredickrodri (talk) 07:31, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Treatment of data in this article

Shouldn't the data in this article refer to the PUP system itself? Most of the data, including but not limited to the general and campuses information relate only to the Manila campuses. I have put info on other campuses on the campuses section weeks ago but it seems to be deleted.... Just thinking. Libertylie (talk) 11:00, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

Hello Libertylie, PUP Manila and the PUP System is tantamount to each other (Further information regarding about PUP Manila/PUP System here). There are already articles about the other campuses of PUP. We do not need separate articles for PUP System and PUP Manila.
