Pohja or Pojo?

[edit]

@KaGr: When you moved the page from Pohja to Pojo, Finland, you wrote According to Finnish guidlines the international name of a town/City/Municipality is teh one used by tha languagemajority of the area. Here it is Swedish so the Sweidsh name is that but the article says: The municipality was bilingual, with majority being Finnish (60%) and minority Swedish (40%) speakers. Do you have more up to date information on the language situation? 85.76.140.123 (talk) 21:28, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I do completely agree with that issue. And was evaluating which way to do it in this exceptional case to give justice to the facts. Pojo-Pohja is part of the municipality of Raseborg-Raasepori that is majority Swedish speaking. Pojo-Pohja still exists as a town. There are two possibilities to do this either to move the Pohja to Pojo or to rename the article called something like Pohja -former municipality, Finland. To me both are a problematic in their own way. Making two articles will give a lot of the same information and might cause problems for an international reader to separate the two articles. The other option is to move the Pohja article to Pojo is also problematic due to the reasons You mention. To me both are possible but also both are problematic, so I did move it just for convenience of the international users. Either way former Pohja, Finland has to be either moved or renamed because keeping it as such will cause problems because You have to make a link in the international wikipedia from the name Pohja, Finland to the article about the present Pojo,Finland. If You keep it in the international Wikipedia as one article You can add new information to the same base. And the article in itself could be modified to tell that Pohja -Pojo is a town within the new municipality and a former municipilaty. KaGr (talk) 09:33, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The language situation in Raseborg is 65,4 % Swedish speaking 31,2 % Finnish speaking and 3,4 other languages. I think we will have to do this article for the current area and mave a link from Pohja saying thet this was the anme for the former municipality during the period there was Finnish speaking majority. Pohja is not the current international name

[edit]

The current international name is not Pohja but Pojo. In my opinion it is wrong to use a non international name in international texts. KaGr (talk) 07:44, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
