Are you sure Planxty is restricted to being Irish? Don't they play some Scottish songs as well? Kamocat 23:25, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Eurovision

No mention is made of their appearance at Eurovision 1981, where they performed the interval "Timedance". Surely this is their most famous moment?--Tuzapicabit (talk) 21:27, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

No, it's definitely not their most famous moment. Planxty are hugely influential in their genre, and are listened to around the world by people who are into Irish traditional music, who have never heard of their appearance at Eurovision 1981. Updates on 1-2 January, 2014.

Hello everyone;

I thought it might be useful to report back, out of courtesy, to other editors interested in the present article, since I have tried to improve it yesterday and today, initially because it clearly needed quite a bit of tidying up (remove wikilinks from names causing red text, correct typos, add italics to album and book names, add double quotations marks to single track names, etc.)

I also re-structured the existing, long sub-section titled 'Break-ups and reunions' (in the 'History' section) into two new sub-sections with new titles, one for each of the Planxty reunions, plus an extra new sub-section for O'Toole's book. These new sub-sections retained all of the existing text contributed by earlier editors. For consistency, I also added the years of activity. '(1972-1975)'. to the original title of the first sub-section ('Formation and first run').

I then decided to add a new sub-section (also in the 'History' section) about 'LAPD', with new text I wrote for an equivalent section I had previously contributed to the article on Andy Irvine. It seems to me that a recent re-grouping of three-quarters of the original Planxty deserved a mention in the present article, especially since there is already a mention of the statement made by Moore that he gave his blessing for the other three to continue using the name 'Planxty' (although they clearly refrained from doing so).

However, if anyone objects to my initiative of adding this new sub-section for 'LAPD', then please feel free to revert it.

Finally, the next task I will undertake over the coming days and weeks is to add the much-needed reference citations to the whole article, very much like I did for the Irvine article and which contains a lot of the required ref tags already; so, it shouldn't take me too long. Once I have completed this task, I will be delighted to delete the following 'unreferenced' tag from the top of the article:

Recent updates about 'planxties' to the article on 'Planxty' (the band)

Dear 'Arcane Gesture',

Thank you for adding some text, on 4 April 2014, to the existing article on Planxty (the band), related to the original meaning of the 'planxties' composed by Turlough O'Carolan.

However, as I am sure you noticed, the article is primarily about the band itself (comprising Christy Moore, Andy Irvine, Dónal Lunny and Liam O'Flynn); in other words, it is not an article about O'Carolan's 'planxties'.

Therefore, I re-located the text you added into the article's existing section headed 'Etymology', where there was already some prose entered by previous editors about the association of the band's name with O'Carolan's 'planxties'.

Please may I suggest that you therefore consider re-working that 'Etymology' section in line with the WP:MOS? For example, the text you recently contributed now duplicates some in the original text in that section and will therefore need to be consolidated. Also, you added some text under a pseudo-header ('References'); please therefore consider using the standard Wikipedia templates for book citations instead of the 'raw' <ref> tags that you used. Then, please insert these new book citations within the text itself, since every point asserted in a WP article needs to be corroborated by a reference citation to a third-party source (in this case: the books you added under your own 'References' pseudo-header).

Finally, and given your interest and knowledge of the subject of O'Carolan's 'planxties', it might be worth for you to consider revising your recent text in conjunction with the existing Wikipedia article on Turlough O'Carolan, with the aim of providing concise encyclopedic material.
