Hello, Lucas, I have had a chance to read over your Good Article submission for Plano. I coincidentally have written a few related articles, so I have a decent knowledge of the subject. Unfortunately, I cannot pass it at this time and I do not think that its problems can be solved without significant additions. However, I will try to give you some ideas for how to expand this article so that it can meet the criteria.

  • History: The Plano article jumps in immediately with the Marsh Harvester works. However, that was not the first thing to happen in Plano. We need information about the first settlers of Plano and, including any applicable Native American history. You mention owners of grist mills but do not give any specifics about who came when. The date of the town's incorporation in mentioned in the infobox, but we need some information about it in the text. It is also difficult to understand the chronology in the text. Companies like the Plano Molding Company are mentioned, but there's no indication of when. There is also very little written about the town's history from 1900 to 2000. We skip ahead from the founding of major manufacturing works like Marsh and Plano Molding straight to the early 21st century economic downturn. The Man of Steel information is interesting, and a sentence or two is probably OK, but it dominates the history section. Over the course of the town's 150 year history, the filming of a movie is a relatively minor event.
  • The Farnsworth House: Like Man of Steel, a single work of art shold not dominate the text. It likewise should be condensed and probably merged with the history section.
  • Geography: This section tells us little about the geography of Plano. Where is it? How large is it? What unusual geologic features are present? How is the town divided (neighborhoods, etc.)? What is the climate like? You have to assume that a person reading this article has no knowledge of what Illinois is like.
  • Demographics: We need more than a snapshot of the town's demographics. We should have some indication about how they have changed over the years.
  • Media: Newspapers are mentioned, but we need some prose about how they developed over the years.
  • Notable People: This list should be converted to prose or removed.
  • Other topics needing coverage: Education, recreation, government (including fire, police etc.), transportation (briefly mentioned in history, but we need more info), and economy (who is employing residents today).
  • Other issues: The citations need better formatting. All websites should have a retrieval date and publisher. There are a few bare link URLs that need to be formatted. In general, every paragraph needs at least one citation and no paragraph should conclude without one at the end. The lead will also need to be expanded to summarize all of the sections of the article.

If you are interesting in bringing this article to GA status, you may want to browse through the cities and towns that have already been elevated to GA or FA status. They might give you and indication of the type of summary that we are looking for. Hopefully this hasn't been too harsh, but good articles need to meet the Good article criteria.
