Notability
[edit]Jeffrey O. Gustafson, I'm guessing you aren't British, right? This guy is everywhere at the moment. His record is on rotation on BBC Radio 1 (the #1 radio station here), and the video has been shown on Channel 4, a mainstream TV channel. I gave references showing him being discussed on the BBC and in The Guardian, which are both major media channels by any standard. I've now
He hasn't released an album yet though, so he's not established so much as he has gained notoriety and is an up and coming star. Hopefully soon he will be though, can't wait to go see him live Tony2Times 01:56, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
Music career
[edit]There's been some new additions about Plan B collaborating with Shameless and about how one of his songs from Adulthood is 'a great track.' Can this be cleaned up and cited? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.20.212.181 (talk) 12:28, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
he's also featured on a new track with dj chase and status plus a new video if u check the myspace page —Preceding unsigned comment added by Theinforcer4 (talk • contribs) 22:16, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
"ill manors" does NOT contain a sample of Peter Fox's "Alles neu", although (too) many said so. in fact it's a sample of a part of Dmitri Shostakovich's Seventh Symphony in C Major (which was also sampled by Peter Fox) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.138.75.254 (talk) 09:31, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
Personal life
[edit]School
[edit]Who found out that he went to Anglo-European school and do they have a citation for it? And, if available, citations for any other fact on this page? Tony2Times 01:53, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
Black or white
[edit]Is this guy black or white? Or even Indian or summat? With no picture of him and no racial background in the profile, this article doesn't really tell you anything about his race JayKeaton 08:26, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
He's white. His skin colour is not relevant to defining who he is.
Is there a source for the claim in the boxout that he's also know as Stephen "David" Hankinson? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.194.199.89 (talk) 23:59, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
Georgie Atherton is not Ben Drew's mother, etc.
[edit]The edit by 86.176.164.114 at 21:25 on 16 March 2011
"Ben Drew's mother (Georgie Atherton) worked for a local authority and his father (Lloyd Wickham) played in a local punk rock band"
- The name Georgie Atherton was added
- The name Paul Ballance was changed to Lloyd Wickham
Please note this misinformation continues to be propagated around the internet. A recent example where a journalist has probably copied this information directly from Wikipedia can be found here:-
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/brits/3416650/Plan-B-I-wish-Id-had-a-Plan-B.html "Even his mum was getting in on the action – Georgie Atherton put in an impressive stint on the gin with her lad until 2am." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.109.179.93 (talk) 15:28, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
Update: This Wikipedia article has again courted controversy over propagated misinformation (wiki vandalism etc.) being used undermine an article printed in the Observer Magazine:-
Reading through the comments section of this linked article, it cannot be determined whether this has been exploited deliberately or not. However it does expose a real risk that this Wikipedia article could be used as a defamatory weapon against Ben Drew and his family in future. Please therefore remain vigilant and be prepared to challenge any edit that cannot be properly cited in a reputable source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.109.179.93 (talk) 00:52, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
Update at 1st November 2011: Getty Images still using the name Georgie Atherton drawn from earlier Wikipedia article subjected to vandalism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.109.179.93 (talk) 23:35, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Update at 2nd November 2011: Getty Images notified of the error, were shown this discussion topic and very promptly updated their website to show Erica Drew on all the affected images. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.109.179.93 (talk) 22:59, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Filmography
[edit]I've removed "Pieces" from the filmography section as it is a Plan B music video and belongs in the discography page under Music videos (as featured artist) section. Music videos typically go in discography pages and the Filmography section of this article should focus on Ben Drew as an actor/director not as Plan B the musician. Therefore there is no need for the duplication. Ellm6 (talk) 14:01, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- "Pieces" has now been removed from the filmography. Ellm6 (talk) 20:34, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Ellm6: "the Filmography section of this article should focus on Ben Drew as an actor/director not as Plan B the musician." This user does not appear to accept that Ben Drew was the director of the music video "Pieces" and therefore insists on removal from the filmography. There is plenty of evidense to suggest that Ben Drew did in fact direct this video. Ellm6's reasoning is completely flawed here. Duplication here is completely justified. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.221.115.165 (talk) 17:34, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- Might I suggest that where it says 'Turnout', it is added that it was a cameo as he literally only appears in the film for around 2 minutes? Kane (talk) 10:49, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
RE: Erroneous text removal regarding information on the use of music
[edit]==Music in Advertising==
"In June 2011, Hewlett-Packard signed up Plan B as part of their advertsing campaign for its laptops[1] [2], which featured a UK cinema shown film of Plan B in a recording studio[3]. In its 24th June issue, the British satirical magazine Private Eye made reference to the ad in its Ad Nauseam column[4] and voiced the magazine's view that Plan B's involvement in the commerical seemed to be at odds with his comments at the Ivor Novello Awards regarding music promotion and criticising what "...has to go on in order to get your music to get played to the masses."[5]"
The above text is information relevant to the usage of Plan B's music by himself and the use of his music in other media with his consent. The text meets Wikepedia criteria of Neutrality, Verifiability (referencing The Guardian, Brand Republic, NME and Private Eye, all mainstream respected sources) and of containing No Original Research.
The text has been previously removed, with the reason given being 'Highly contentious and dubious source (Private Eye) is insufficient reason for adding new section on Advertising. Therefore undid revision.'
This reasoning is incorrect in two crucial ways:
(1) The phrase 'highly contentious' is mistakenly employed to describe text which simply and plainly quotes Plan B's own words on the subject of how his music is used - there is no dispute on the provenance of the quotes as Plan B was widely quoted in all the media that reported his post-Ivor Novello Awards comments
(2) Private Eye is widely established as a publication that rigously fact-checks its news stories (its investigative reporting is held in high esteem) and it is therefore inaccurate to describe the magazine as a 'dubious source'.
Also, both Plan B and Private Eye magazine cannot be a 'dubious source' of their own thoughts on a subject.
NOTE: the text removal was by the user 81.109.179.93 - twenty of 81.109.179.93's twenty-one user contributions are regarding the Plan B article, which perhaps suggests a subjective attachment to the piece which may cloud objectivity. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.170.220.22 (talk) 21:12, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
In response to the above: Hopefully the clarification added, which put's some context around the reported remarks, should allow readers to determine if the alleged comments by Private Eye were indeed justified for inclusion here. I fear the contributor is determined that the remarks be retained despite efforts to have them removed. However, investigation of the citations does suggest no obvious connection between the comments made by Plan B in obvious reference to his US stage tour, and the HP advertisement screened in UK cinemas. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.104.254.242 (talk) 19:49, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Christian music?
[edit]This talk page is currently tagged with {{WikiProject Christian music}}. Which of his songs/albums is considered Christian music? There's no mention of that in the article. Or is it a mistake? Robofish (talk) 11:33, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
