Review
[edit]I would appreciate a review and grading of this article. Thanks, Jnorthdur (talk) 06:18, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
- I think this is a decent little article, but you need to address the lead. See WP:LEAD and WP:OPENPARAGRAPH. Betty Logan (talk) 17:38, 2 April 2011 (UTC)*: Done
- Since the poster for Il Fuoco (File:Cartel-Il Fouco.jpg) is under copyright you need to provide a Wikipedia:Fair use rationale to use it in the article. The easiest way to do this is to add Template:Film poster fur to the file page under the Summary section. Betty Logan (talk) 12:43, 3 April 2011 (UTC)*: Done
- A source is also needed for the "Surviving Copies" section. Betty Logan (talk) 13:23, 3 April 2011 (UTC)*: Done
- Details of her death (included in the infobox) aren't included and sourced in the article, but should be. Betty Logan (talk) 18:23, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- There is some over-linking. Generally, only names, titles, and terms specific to understanding the article should be linked. For instance, places like Italy, Rome, London etc shouldn't be linked, but it's acceptable to link "Castroreale" i.e. any places the typical reader won't have heard of. Professions such as film star, comedien and diplomat don't need to be linked either per common professions, and neither do generic terms as "flashback", "gun-shot wounds", "diary", "on-location" etc. See WP:LINKS and WP:OVERLINK for guidance on linking. - This is obviously a well-written article and gives a comprehensive overview of Menichelli's filmography. However I'm downgrading it to "C" class; it was erroneously awarded B status but doesn't meet the criteria for a B-class article yet. Apart from the issues above, there are certain limitations in the coverage. For instance how did she review? Was she acclaimed? In what sort of reverence did her peers hold her? How big a star was she? How did she compare to her contemporaries? Was her stardom limited to Italy or was she international? The coverage of her personal life is very brief, did her separation cause a scandal? Did it affect her career? The article is lacking in detail outside of her filmography, but if that is addressed it will easily be a B class article and a candidate for good article status. - I've restored the B class rating, it's easily into B class territory now. The lead still needs to be expanded at some point (about double the length it is now) to give a thorough overview of what the article is about, and her date of death as a biographic detail still needs to be sourced in the article. The only slight concern I have is that there is no negative coverage and if you take it to GA at some point a reviewer might question its neutrality, but it's a great article overall. - Thanks for the upgrade, it's encouraging. When I finish my current assignments, I will source the death date (it is in Martinelli, I just don't have acopy to hand), expand the lead and try and look for some negative coverage. I shall also expand the details of her career at Itala. One of the problems with Italian silent film is that film criticism was also in its infancy, and the aristocrats/tycoons who owned the studios also owned (or were friends with) the film critics...as a result, certain 'preferred' film directors and actors get fantastic write-ups, while others get ruthlessly slagged off. 'Popular' directors like Elvira Notari and Emilio Ghione get a lot of abuse, whereas films featuring Menichelli or Bertini seem to receive universal acclaim! Thanks a lot for you help with this article. Jnorthdur (talk) 09:54, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah I appreciate that, you sometimes get jokers who insist the Hitler article should have a balance of positive and negative material. WP:NPOV doesn't actually say the articles need to be balanced, just that they must be representative of all significant and published points of view, so if there isn't any negative material out there then obviously there isn't any to include, and there is not much you can do about that. That's not a problem in itself, just something that might need to be explained at a GA review for instance. Betty Logan (talk) 17:08, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
