Course Project Discussion

Hi All - here are some additional sources that I found when looking into the issues we discussed yesterday.

Hi Team Murphy, I thought I'd drop by to see how it is going. As you start to organize the text - you might look at how other book articles are arranged. Most have a few sections that have include an intro that explains the significance of the book, a section on the plot of the book, a section on any awards, and the critical reception of the book (and always a reference section). I'm really looking forward to seeing this article! Cheers, Will (talk) 20:06, 17 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Team Murphy, I like how your draft article is shaping up and I just wanted to add a couple more suggestions. First, it's good to have your introduction above the table of contents. To do so, you'd just remove the heading "Pig Girl (Play)" and when you move the page from your sandbox into an article, you would then make that the title. Also, in your references, it's generally good practice to reuse a citation (i.e. have multiple footnotes like to the same reference) rather than list it multiple times in your references. To do so, you can delete the footnote number of any duplicate citation, then add a new citation and click "reuse" on the citation tool. Please let me know if this makes sense - don't hesitate to flag me down in class. Cheers, Will (talk) 18:25, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi All - I'm checking in, too. I was researching something for Team Lee, as their focus is also on a literary work tied to the serial killings, and found this article by UBC scholar Laura Moss that I thought might be helpful for your project. She is responding to criticism to an art installation -- who gets to tell this story and why -- and while she does not mention Murphy's work, she might have quotations that work in your "reception" section for how to respond to the play (particularly because she is responding directly to other artistic responses to the 69 missing women from the Downtown Eastside (47)). For example, she closes with these questions, "What is the role of art in promoting public awareness of injustices? What happens when the rights of the community to learn about violence butt against the rights of individual victims? How is pain represented responsibly and accountably? How complicit is an artist in histories of exploitation through the very act of presentation and reproduction? Is communal grief appropriative? What does respectful memorializing look like? What is the role of cultural productions in shaping both cultural memory and political vision?" Hi Team - To invite more readers to your article, you may wish to add a link to Pig Girl from the Carol Bolt Award article: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Carol_Bolt_Award. I'm surprised to see that the article for the GG Awards doesn't appear to list winning texts, as otherwise, that would be a good place, too. Cheers, Kathryn --Astu260instructor 2016 (talk) 18:25, 22 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

-done! Thanks for the suggestion! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juliat2017 (talkcontribs) 05:21, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The GGs have been presented since 1936, in anywhere between three and fourteen separate categories depending on the year. So the head article Governor General's Awards itself would be unmanageably long and unreadable if all of the winners were directly listed there — what we do have, rather, is a separate article about each individual year's awards which lists all of the winners and nominees that year, and a separate article for each category which lists all of the winners and nominees in that category across the years. What you're actually looking for in this instance is Governor General's Award for English-language drama and 2016 Governor General's Awards, while a common mass list in Governor General's Awards itself would be neither useful nor desirable.
