2015 Election
[edit]The article needs to be updated to reflect the results of the 2015 federal election in Canada.John Paul Parks (talk) 16:57, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

[edit]"Lemieux is viewed as a prominent social conservative; he is one of the most vocal opponents of abortion and same-sex marriage among the newly elected Conservatives."
I edited this line because while Lemieux could be described as a social conservative he is neither prominent nor vocal when it comes to social conservatism.
He didn't campaign on abortion and only mentioned his opposition to it when reporters brought it up.
Furthermore, revisiting same-sex marriage was a very minor aspect of his campaign which wouldn't have received as much attention had it not been a national policy of the party.
The two themes he campaigned on were support for farmers and accountability in government.
For these reasons I would not consider him a "vocal social conservative; if you view his website you'll see little or no evidence of social conservatism.
Secondly, he is not yet "prominent". He was a relative unknown before his nomination and although he is an MP, he is only one of 308 and as a first term MP is likely to remain a little-known backbencher for quite a while.

- The reason he has little information on social conservatism on his website is because the party urged them to avoid such to make their more conservative candidates appear "moderate". His record, according to both conservative and liberal groups, is staunchly anti-abortion and anti-same sex marriage. EGALE Canada gave him an "F" grade with a (since deleted) note suggesting that he has a radical right wing social agenda. Campaign Life Coalition rates him as "pro-life and pro-marriage without exceptions". [1] CrazyC83 02:15, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
That may be true, however, that does not prove that he is a "vocal" or "prominent" social conservative. All it proves is that he's a social conservative. Anon - Feb 14, 2006
It would seem a disambiguation page is needed, as there is another Pierre Lemieux with whom readers could become confused:
"Pierre Lemieux is an economist and author who was born, and lives, in Québec. Besides numerous articles in the international press, he has published several books on politics, economics, and liberty. His latest book is Comprendre l'économie (Paris: Les Belles Lettres, 2008).
http://www.pierrelemieux.org/ "
I am assuming this is not the same person discussed in this Wikipedia article. It would be helpful if the economist/author had a separate page in Wikipedia. I don't have the skills to do it myself, but at least a stub would be helpful.
