Expansion

[edit]

Despite devoted to an important figure of literature, this article was really a crap (as many which have been copied from 1911 Britannica - I seem this was such). In lack of broadness typical of that publications (and many Anglosaxon books devoted to foreign themes), little, if any, importance was given to what not considered immediately recognizable by the (Anglosaxon) reader (i.e.: "they only know the book title? So let's speak only about it"). The new biography section is taken from the French wikipedia; hope my translation is decent. I also moved the section devoted to the Liaisons to the latter's entry. --Attilios (talk) 09:39, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Verbal diarrhoea?

[edit]

"...entering the service of Louis Philippe, Duke of Orléans, for whom, after the outbreak of the French Revolution, he carried forward with intense diplomatic activity."

What on earth is that supposed to mean?

For whom he carried forward /what/? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.176.214.202 (talk) 22:18, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

his story in relation to the invention of the modern artillery shell

[edit]

I was surprised to see that the artillery shell article seemed to have no mention of this. To the extent that he made significant contributions to this military technology, it seems to me that there ought to be a mention there. Are there references that could be used to fill in this gap? --AJim (talk) 06:46, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
