[edit]

Hi there, I recently added a good amount of information to this page because I thought it looked a little lack luster. I realize it is of low importance, but i figured it could use a little work and some more reference. I couldn't figure out how to use a reference more than once so references 4,10, and 11 are the same, that is 100% my fault. If anyone knows how to take care of that please do so. Thanks! I'm just trying to contribute.

Thanks for your additions, well done! I consolidated the double references (easily done as you see from the changes). Micromesistius (talk) 20:39, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Taxonomy

[edit]

Most recent taxonomy places this species as Rana palustris, see Yuan et al. (2016, Systematic Biology, doi: 10.1093/sysbio/syw055). This is supported by amphibiaweb (https://amphibiaweb.org/species/5121). I'd recommend altering the first sentence in the paper to reflect this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.91.213.153 (talk) 17:24, 3 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This has been discussed at exceeding length on Rana, Lithobates and elsewhere. The taxonomy is disputed, but most authors and arguements favor Lithobates. HCA (talk) 15:36, 4 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Poisonous?

[edit]

I deleted the text added by 68.40.197.6 (his only edit, by the way) stating that pickerel frogs are capable of making humans very sick and killing small animals. He provided no documentation of this, and it is contradicted not only by sources such as [1] and [2] but by the personal experience of everyone whose childhood memories include catching these common, often land-dewelling, frogs (me included). Their skin secretions can be irritating if they come in contact with sensitive tissue (eyes, mucous membranes, etc.), but to the best of my knowledge, that's about the limit of it. They're notorious for killing other species put in the same container during collecting, however, so the effects may be different for cold-blooded animals. Image

[edit]

I recently photographed a Pickerel frog that I found in my area and uploaded it to Wikimedia Commons. It is a higher quality image than this article's previous main image (File:WhiteMountainsFrog.jpg), and I thought that it should replace the current one (at no offense to the photographer of the current picture, of course). However, I am relatively new to editing Wikipedia and I wanted to make sure I did everything correctly. So, could someone please tell me whether I made any mistakes? Thank you very much! I hope to be editing and uploading much more in the future. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gbmodern (talkcontribs) 01:41, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
