The result of the move request was: page will move to Number Scrabble.(non-admin closure) -- Dane talk 00:09, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pick15Number Scrabble – Don Norman calls this game "Pick15" in his 1988 Psychology of Everyday Things, but John Michon and Michael Herbert both call it "Number Scrabble" in papers from the 1960s, and this seems to be a more WP:COMMONNAME for it. A Google Books search turns up 94 results for "tic-tac-toe" "number scrabble" and 3 for "tic-tac-toe" "pick 15" (with or without a space); a straight Google search is about 2,800-1,100 in favour of "Number Scrabble". Isomorphism with tic-tac-toe

[edit]

It's not obvious that the game is isomorphic with tic-tac-toe via the magic square. One also has to show that all the other possible ways of selecting 3 numbers (those that are not lines in the magic square) to get 15 (e.g., 7+4+4 or 2+3+10) are not valid game moves. Unclear to me

[edit]

In ttt, if I pick an extraneous square, it does nothing for me (except perhaps block my opponent). But what happens in this game? What if I pick, say, 8, 2, and 1 -- and then pick 5? Do I win because 8+2+5=15, or does my 1 create problems? In other words, can I sort and "discard" however I wish?37.99.87.230 (talk) 04:17, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You win if you pick any three numbers which sum to 15. 御犽真夜魂 (talk) 05:19, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There is a problem with the wording of this article. "the first player to amass a personal total of exactly 15 wins" does not describe a game which is isomorphic with tic-tac-toe. The winner does not have a total of exactly 15 (i.e., using all of their selections), but rather a sum of 15 using any three of their selections. The description should read something like "the first player with a sum of 15 using any three of their number selections wins". Meters (talk) 05:37, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
For example, 6+9 cannot win, neither can 1+2+4+8, only sum of three numbers is allowed. 御犽真夜魂 (talk) 03:20, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Programming 1

[edit]

Number scrabble is play with the list of numbers between 1 and 9 each player takes turns picking a number from the list. Once a number has been picked, it cannot be picked again. If a player has picked three numbers that add up to 15. That player wins the game. However, if all the numbers are used and no player gets exactly 15, the game is draw. 62.114.38.46 (talk) 21:14, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
