This article does state that heraldry was something he studied throughout his life, and the Ludwig Biewer article in the Bibliography, perhaps added in response to your comment, seems relevant. These were listed as "sources" separate from the "reference" section, which really made them "further reading". In any case, they should be added to the article once they are being used to verify the running text.
