Biosynthesis - it would be better to move most of this section (except for the part from abscisic acid to phaseic acid) to the abscisic acid entry. Figure - Converting phytoene to b-carotene also involves desaturation. Carotenoid precursors - xanthoxin is produced by a dioxygenase not epoxygenase. Figure - b-carotene hydroxylase appears to convert b-carotene to zeaxanthin via cryptoxanthin rather than lutein. Figure - 9-cis is inconsistent with the structure shown. Modification of xanthoxin - Xanthoxin is oxidized at the alcohol, isomerized at the epoxy, and then oxidized at the aldehyde to produce abscisic acid.
