Inaccurate (and irrelevant) information concerning the islands dispute
[edit]I have removed the following paragraph from the "1954 to 1987" section: "He is also known who signed paper to donate the Islands Hoang Sa(Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands to China."
First of all, this sentence isn't quite accurate – the islands weren't 'donated'. What happened was that in 1958 the government of PRC issued a statement proclaiming the limit of their territorial waters to be 12 nautical miles from the coast, which included Paracel and Spratley islands. Pham Van Dong, being head of the government of North Vietnam, sent a formal note to the government of PRC recognizing these territorial claims. North Vietnam had to do this because their war efforts against South Vietnam were for the most part financed by PRC at the time. Soon after the fall of Saigon and the reunification of the country, Vietnam started claiming these territories as part of their country, with Pham Van Dong still in office.
Secondly, the content of the removed sentence (even if it were accurate) cannot be compared in importance with the rest of the information in the section. 95.129.170.53 (talk) 08:26, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
