We should have an article on every pyramid and every nome in Ancient Egypt. I'm sure the rest of us can think of other articles we should have.
Cleanup.
To start with, most of the general history articles badly need attention. And I'm told that at least some of the dynasty articles need work. Any other candidates?
Standardize the Chronology.
A boring task, but the benefit of doing it is that you can set the dates !(e.g., why say Khufu lived 2589-2566? As long as you keep the length of his reign correct, or cite a respected source, you can date it 2590-2567 or 2585-2563)
Stub sorting
Anyone? I consider this probably the most unimportant of tasks on Wikipedia, but if you believe it needs to be done . . .
Data sorting.
This is a project I'd like to take on some day, & could be applied to more of Wikipedia than just Ancient Egypt. Take one of the standard authorities of history or culture -- Herotodus, the Elder Pliny, the writings of Breasted or Kenneth Kitchen, & see if you can't smoothly merge quotations or information into relevant articles. Probably a good exercise for someone who owns one of those impressive texts, yet can't get access to a research library.
A fact from Petubastis III appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 29 May 2008, and was viewed approximately 1,206 times (disclaimer) (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
This is clearly compiled from a variety of real sources. For instance, the 1970 edition of Vol 4 of the Cambridge Ancient History [1] says "A native dynast named Petubastis may have tried to seize power at this point [when the Satrap Aryandes may have been expelled]. There is even a document dated to the first year of his 'reign' but he is a very shadowy figure."
This is the source the 'dynast', 'shadowy figure' and 'document' bits of the article, but in the article an unknown document dated to the first year of his reign is stated to be dated to 522, which is synthesis/original research.
Another interesting source is
Egyptian-Type Documents from the Mediterranean Littoral of the Iberian Peninsula Before the Roman Conquest by J. Padro I Parcerisa [2] which suggests Kitchen may mention him.
Jona Lendering's article at [3] is another source (and is the source of the error about Inarus being crucified also [4])--Doug Weller (talk) 18:56, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have reverted all but the opening sentence pending references and citations. Sorry, but I don't know how else to get the message across -- the author has been repeatedly warned not to enter data without references. Madman (talk) 01:34, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
