Dr.Peter Mathuki’s major Achievements as SG of EAC
[edit]Achievements:
• Expansion of the Community from six (6) to Eight (8) Partner States with an increased market population of approximately 330 million.
• Adoption of a sustainable financing mechanism for the East African Community by the Summit of the EAC Heads of State (65 % equal contribution and 35 % assessed contributions).
• The EAC total trade saw a substantial increase of 13.4%, reaching USD 80.05 billion in 2023 compared to USD 67.268 billion in 2021.
• Intra-EAC trade expanded in value by 19%, reaching to USD 12.14 billion in 2023 from USD 9.8 billion in 2021, however it has consistently remained at 15% of total trade.
• Adoption of a Four Band Common External Tariff (CET) structure by the Community which spurs local manufacturing, creating jobs and increased revenue for Partner States.
• Increased Resource Mobilization efforts to support programmes and projects of the Community’s Organs and Institutions from Development Partners.
• Commissioning and completion of regional infrastructure, agriculture, energy, health and education projects with support from Development Partners.
• Increased private sector participation in policy and decision making and putting in place EAC-EABC technical working group.
• Enhanced Inter-REC collaboration - putting together efforts to support close collaboration amongst the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) in the continent.
Increased Peace and Security systems in place to secure the region – oversaw deployment of the first EAC Regional Force (EACRF) to support peace restoration efforts in the region. 185.8.5.189 (talk) 21:15, 29 November 2024 (UTC)
