[edit]This article is vulnerable to being nominated for deletion. It is a general biography of an academic, but the article fails to assert or demonstrate that Peter Buneman is adequately notable. Wikipedia welcomes articles about notable individuals, providing those individuals are notable in accordance with the description at WP:BIO. For an academic, notability criteria are specified at WP:PROF.
This article does not assert or demonstrate that Peter is appropriately notable. The article is a general biography of a kind that might appear in a university directory. Biographical articles that fail to demonstrate adequate notability are quickly nominated for deletion. This article should be upgraded quickly to meet WP:PROF. Absence of notability
[edit]This article is still very poor with respect to Wikipedia's principles for articles about living persons. Firstly, and most importantly, it fails to assert and demonstrate any particular notability for Peter. It doesn't assert he is notable as a computer scientist and then explain what notable things he has done as a computer scientist; or that he is notable as a University academic and then explain what notable things he has done as an academic. It is just a boring chronology and listing of the various posts Peter has held. This sort of general biography is what one expects in a University staff directory but it is most definitely not acceptable in Wikipedia. An article about a person must meet the criterion specified in WP:BIO and an article about an academic must meet the criterion specified in WP:PROF.
Wikipedia articles must be written from a neutral point of view. This one fails that test. For example, the article presently contains the following statements:
He is one of the best known researchers ...
He is well known for his research ...
These statements don't demonstrate a neutral point of view, and they are not supported by any in-line citation. The article appears to have been written by a person keen to promote Peter Buneman, and willing to put his own complimentary spin on his prose to achieve the desired effect.
In the near future this article should be nominated for deletion so the Wikipedia community can review it and pass judgement on whether it meets the necessary criteria. At present I am confident it doesn't. Dolphin51 (talk) 12:39, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
