This article is too western

None of the segments on pet popularity or ownership deal with countries outside of North America and Europe. You can learn nearly nothing about pets in most of the world through this article. Dvalentine (talk) 02:47, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

The remarks about the church traditionally condemning affection for animals are false. Medieval clergymen never condemned affection for horses or other animals (which was widespread in medieval Europe) even if individual theologians such as Aquinas held an instrumentalist view of animals themselves. Moreover, to claim that modern Westerners (and no others) keep animals as "pets" at least conceals more than it reveals-for example, that there is also MORE INSTRUMENTALISM towards animals in the modern West through factory farming and vivisection.16:28, 15 February 2017 (UTC)70.190.102.49 (talk)

Definition of pet

"Entertainment" is too broad. There are many instances where animals are treated as ends in themselves by their owners without being regarded as "pets" (for instance, the bulls and horses killed in bullfights in what are considered to be "glorious" deaths).-70.190.102.49 (talk) 22:19, 16 February 2017 (UTC)

I was not talking about bulls or horses. I was talking about fish. Why do humans keep fish as pets? DrChrissy (talk) 23:10, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
