Some stuff back

[edit]

I've read about everything I thought was good in the original page. However, I'm not sure why the original page got deleted, so probably we have to edit somethings from the original edit. By the way, I think we need a Relationship section for Percy. (You know, about Annabeth, Rachel Elizabeth Dare... etc.) Good luck on bringing the character pages back! I'll help when I have time. --Mktsay123 (talk) 07:11, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Major change

[edit]

The info in the History section is pretty much just restated in the In the Books section. I propose that we just cut most of the redundant stuff out of the History section that is mentioned in the other section. Input below? Thanks, Airplaneman (talk) 00:51, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I support this decision. Hopefully, we will reach a consensus by this weekend. Pmlineditor  Talk 07:44, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Support. Seems like an editorial no-brainer. --Quartermaster (talk) 12:27, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, we seem to have reached a consensus. Pmlineditor  Talk 12:55, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I guess I'll start trimming out the redundant plot summary from the History section that is stated in the In the Books section. I'll go this by opening up 2 windows and going through the The Lightning Theif section and cutting what is redundant in there from the Book One section. I hope this makes sense; I'm not a very good explainer. Well, here I go. --Airplaneman (talk) 13:43, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am finding it extremely hard to trim! That is because there are many minute details that are mentioned in one and not the other which make or break a good plot summary. I now think it is better to just somehow merge the two sections to say something like His History in the Books or something. That way, the reader can see all the details in one reading so he or she does not have to scroll around, which is a pain, especially for someone who has a low screen resolution. Sorry for the confusion, but it's for the best. (I hope :D)--Airplaneman (talk) 13:54, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Romance

[edit]

Is anyone interested in working with me to rewrite the Romance section? The entire article needs work, but that's one section that I think could be improved greatly. Not sure if I have time or skill to do it all myself. I made a few small grammatical edits already, but there is so much to be done! PrincessofLlyr (talk) 17:46, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the support! And thanks for the invite, Pmlineditor. I had been thinking about it, but that kind of sealed the decision. I'm going to start work on the article in my sandbox , so feel free to drop in and make changes. I'll especially need help with any info from the first three books, as I do not own them, nor do I have them memorized yet. I also do not claim to be an expert in English grammar and writing form, so if either of you are good at that...! See you around, PrincessofLlyr (talk) 14:34, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

start class

[edit]

Is this article really still "start class"? It looks a few levels higher than that....Homework2 pass a notesign! 14:00, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It could be possibly changed to C-class, but one of the points in start-class criteria is that it lacks reliable sources and references. Unfortunately, that's the case with this article. The easiest way to solve that would be a section about real world reception. I figure there's something out there, especially with the recent film. Movie Photo vs. Book Pic.

[edit]

I don't understand why the main picture is from the movie, an adaptation of the books. There is clearly a suitable picture as it is lower in the article. The film-makers' attempt doesn't match the actual books at all. I think these should be swapped round, as with the other Percy Jackson character articles.86.177.132.219 (talk) 20:22, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think that if you are going to have a photograpg of Percy they should use the official art or widely accepted art (Vira's is popular) as the photograph. Madison.Olds (talk) 03:19, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Madison.Olds: The pic present right now is simply the best Wikipedia has access to at the moment. I agree that official art would be better, but it seems unlikely that it would meet all fair use criteria. As for "widely accepted art", this is a very subjective term. If an artist were to release their conception of Percy to Wikipedia, it could be possible to use that image, but it would still not be an accurate representation of the character, as only Riordan/Rocco/Disney-Hyperion could provide that. -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 18:06, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

`In the Books` section not needed

[edit]

The In the Books section is overkill, as it is basically a complete synopsis of the books, ignoring all but Percy's actions. However, it is written in such a way that an outsider to the story will have considerable trouble understanding it. Regarding this issue, the Percy Jackson & the Olympians article contains a plot summary which is appropriate enough -- this article should contend with stating the role Percy plays in the series as a whole.

There is also a need to establish who Percy is and what is his relationship and background. Currently, this is done by the books' synopsis, but it could be better defined as a brief paragraph/section (e.g. Background).

Does anyone disagrees strongly?

Passcod (talk) 20:36, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, in fact I agree. Well, sort of. I don't think the whole section needs to be cut, just reworked. Some sort of synopsis has to be kept just for clarity's sake, but it could definitely be cut down. Have at it! PrincessofLlyr royal court 03:59, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Harry Potter

[edit]

Harry Potter is not mentioned anywhere in this article, which overlooks an obvious contextual matter concerning the origins of the Jackson book series. There can be no question that Percy Jackson was created as a result of the tremendous success of the Potter series, and had it not been for the latter, we should have never heard of the former. The internet is teeming with comparisons and similarities, yet this article, by not acknowledging Potter, seems to want to pretend that Jackson was simply created out of thin air in 2005, with "no outside influences" whatsoever. It seems to me to be a rather large elephant in the corner of the room, and I think it needs to be acknowledged, at least for the sake of integrity. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.167.128.230 (talk) 02:37, 8 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have any references ? Winner 42 Talk to me! 23:20, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Riordan finished writing The Lightning Thief, before any Harry Potter novel was published, even though Rowling was writing it. Yes, many people who read it say "hey, there are some Potter similarities" and post it on their blog, which is not a reliable resource. Many critics considered the film to try to mimick Harry Potter's success in film, and compared the three characters to Harry, Ron, and Hermione, but that is about the film, not the books, which is what this article about. It is nearly impossible for any young adult fantasy writer to escape being compared to Harry Potter and trying to copy the success no matter what, which is completely unfair. And everyone thinks Rowling "stole" from C.S. Lewis, Tolkien, etc...why can't authors write what they want without worried that people will trace and theorize "origins"? There may be a few small rants out there, but what is cosidered notable? A section called "Suspected origins" or "Comparisons"? Glimmer721 talk 00:40, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Not to mention that Harry Potter is hugely derivative of 1950s and 1960s school and magic series like Mallory Towers and Ursula LeGuin's "Earthsea". 2.31.164.76 (talk) 14:43, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I feel that all stand-alone articles of "Percy Jackson & The Olympians" characters should be deleted because there's already a page for the list of characters. And these stand-alone articles does not follow the Guidelines.

Thank You. EnvyDC (talk) 08:09, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I assume that you mean the page for the list of characters is List of Camp Half-Blood characters. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion for instructions (good luck with that). How does this article not follow guidelines – which guidelines? Wbm1058 (talk) 12:24, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Percy Jackson, and
There may be others. The bar is probably higher for the main character, and this article, which was created on January 30, 2009, seems better developed now than the deleted version was in December 2008. – Wbm1058 (talk) 13:40, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I believe the best thing to do would be to shorten -- I mean really shorten -- the character descriptions on the master list page ([[List of Camp Half-Blood characters |here}}) that have corresponding character pages. And if any of those pages need to be deleted, they may be; however, I think this page is suitably important as it describes the title character of both a book series and movie series. 2ReinreB2 (talk) 04:54, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Two Points: Please Read

[edit]
  1. I believe a section describing the movie character by the name Percy Jackson would be suitable here, as this article does not make a distinction between the two. They are very different characters, and this article deals almost exclusively with the book character without saying so.
  2. I have completed the "Romance" section requested by so many, as part of a "Friends and Family" section (so that people like Annabeth Chase do not need to be explained more than once). In response to the request that there be a part about Clarisse -- I am unfamiliar with that theory, so if someone would like to add it, please do, and please cite where you have heard of it. Please also be sure to mention it as only a fan-theory unless you can find textual (direct book-quote) evidence that a relationship between the two characters existed.

Citations -- let's get on it

[edit]

This article's been needing reliable citations for more than a year now; let's get to work on that. At the very least, we could add references to each of the Percy Jackson & the Olympians and Heroes of Olympus novels, Rick Riordan's website, and the character bios on the Percy Jackson website. WP:PJTF has a list of useful references down at the very bottom of the page. With just a little effort and careful reading, someone knowledgeable about the series could easily go through and reference where important facts about Percy come from. 2ReinreB2 (talk) 17:22, 5 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Origin, Haley Riordan

[edit]

This article says nothing about the origin of Percy Jackson; that is, the inspiration for Percy Jackson in the ADHD and dyslexia of the writer's son Haley Riordan. (Meanwhile, the origin of the series as bedtime stories told to Haley.) We do provide some information on both points in three other places.

  1. Percy Jackson & the Olympians#Origins (article on first series)
  2. The Lightning Thief#Development and publication (article on first book)
  3. Rick Riordan#Life and career (biography)

Furthermore, Percy Jackson and Haley Riordan "are the same age". That also belongs here--and in the biography, at least so long as we have no other information about the son's age or birthtime.

I know that he played him in the movie, but this is some sort of insult for the people that have read the books. I just don’t think he really represent Percy and we should use the images that are drawn by Viria, because that are the real ones.

Categories

[edit]

Some of the categories the article is placed in do not seem to be fitting. For instance, he is in the category of Fictional Greek People despite not being from Greece and lacking connection to modern Greek culture.

He is listed in the category of child characters in literature category but not the teenage characters in literature category, despite spending a majority of his books being a teenager.

I also find it odd that he is a part of the Category:Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. I do not believe that Percy is important enough to ADHD to be a part of that category. I am aware that he may have acted as a role model of sorts to readers with ADHD, but the Percy Jackson books do not focus much on Percy's ADHD and the character is not an "icon" of ADHD. I am not just saying this as a Wikipedia editor, but also as someone with ADHD who read all of the Percy Jackson books as a child.

I know that the "talk" page is not the right place to mention this, but I do believe that there should be a separate category for fictional characters with ADHD.

The artwork needs to be updated

[edit]

The drawing used on this page to represent Percy is the old artwork, but the description of the image cites the new official artist and links to the website with the new official artwork: [1] [2] The image needs to be updated so that it corresponds to the description.

The picture used for Percy Jackson is an old version of the official art, there has since been a revamp and has more suited and more canonically correct art (and aesthetically appealing). A simple google search for Percy Jackson will reveal not only this art but the entire collection of official character art. Mcmelonlord07 (talk) 04:20, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Percy Jackson is a work of art, nothing is more amazing than Percy Jackson. Weeeeeell, actually I prefer the Seven Winders series but still- Percy Jackson is great. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.182.19.45 (talk) 18:59, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Creation and Conception

Rick Riordan also stated that some of the characters in the book is based off of students in his middle school class. I know for a fact that Katie Gardner, Travis Stoll, and Nico Di Angelo are all named after students in his class. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.133.42.40 (talk) 20:26, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Mediterranean Complexion

[edit]

it's written under adaptations that Percy is described as handsome, with messy jet black hair, a "Mediterranean" complexion, and sea-green eyes like his father Poseidon and the "Son of Neptune" is linked as the source. Although it is mentioned by Hazel that he has messy black hair and sea green eyes, it is not mentioned of his Mediterranean Complexion nor could I find mention of it anywhere so I think it should be deleted or at least signalled that it lacks a source. Alterran (talk) 02:30, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This was discussed at Reddit a year ago, and at Fandom as well. Apparently someone assumed he has a Mediterranean complexion because the person who added it implied it through his description and heritage. I added a "page needed" tag, but it's most likely the opinion of a reader and not the author's description. (CC) Tbhotch 03:15, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Under nicknames, Boss should be there as it is a nickname given to him by Blackjack the Flying Horse, as seen in The Titians Curse, heroes of Olympis, and Mark of Athena

Devanshi.devanshi.devanshi (talk) 00:15, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: Sorry, I'm unsure as to if this meets the requirements.
The page's source code states:
"The definition of a nickname: A name other than a person's given name, which someone else calls them in person AND is frequently used to communicate directly with them. This does not include descriptions of a person, such as 'redhead' or 'my man', or common slang such as 'bro' or 'girl'. Any nickname not meeting these criteria will be redacted from this page."
Boss is commonly a title, and even used colloquially to refer to someone politely. (The Billfold)
Any evidence that something else is going on here?

It says in this article that Percy's birthday is August 18. I, however, hav read all five Percy Jackson & the Olympians books, and i recall that it says that his birthday is August 14. I as a huge Percy Jackson fan have noticed that the last seen section of this post is incorrect. Please adjust that section of the page to say that Percy Jackson was last seen in “Wrath of the triple goddess published in 2024” and not in “Chalice of the gods published in 2023”. Thank you for you consideration and please fix this issue ASAP. Marla Karlara (talk) 03:53, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
