Confusion with Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department?
[edit]@Philafrenzy: Slight concern about Scrope Barnard 1789 (presumably Scrope Bernard-Morland) overlapping with June 1789: Scrope Bernard on Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department. Not v.sure what to make of it. A source - https://archive.org/details/bookdignitiesco00haydgoog/page/n195/mode/2up - has both Bernard and John King (also on this list as a perm sec) as Under Secretaries of State. Not sure exactly what your Newsam F. (Newsam F (1954) The Home Office (London, Allen and Unwin), p.215) ref has to say on the matter, if anything? --Tagishsimon (talk) 09:03, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
- Ah. See also [[1]], which dispenses with Scrope Barnard 1789 and adds March 1782: J. Bell, April 1782: Evan Nepean. --Tagishsimon (talk) 09:38, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
