This text originally clearly shows its Spanish origin and bias. It had to be corrected in several aspects: De Medina was not the first person in Europe to publish a nautical manual; these were printed in Portugal decades before ('Regimento do estrolabio' - ca. 1509 - and the 'Tratado da Spera' - ca. 1516). In Spain Fernandez de Enciso published the 'Suma de Geografia' already in 1519). De Medina could not influence Nunes, the foremost mathematician on the Iberian peninsula at that time, who published his 'Tratado da shera com a Theorica do Sol e da Lua' in 1537 and his 'Tratado em defensao da carta de marear' in 1539. There are no German translations of the 'Arte de marear', the information given by Guillen y Tato about German translations of the 'Arte' is simply wrong. Coignet was not influenced by De Medina; his own little tract on navigation, which contained original material, the 'Nieuwe onderwysinghe' was bound with the 1580 and 1598 Dutch translation of the 'Arte'. The world map in the 'Suma de Cosmographia' manuscript is by no means exceptional, it is simply a copy of extant world maps containing no new information. wkoeberer2003:C8:ABD6:B9D3:C1F0:136A:C90A:F815 (talk) 15:02, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
