Talk:Peavey EVH Wolfgang

When I asked Peavey if they could identify my USA Wolfgang as either a 'Standard' or 'Standard Deluxe', this is what they told me :

First there is no "Standard" designation in the Wolfgang Series. There is the Wolfgang and the Wolfgang Special. Second the "Deluxe" designation is for Custom Shop models and has nothing to do with whether it has a top or not. Third all Wolfgangs, with the exception of the black and white colors, have a maple top (this does not include the Wolfgang Specials).

Edit: I confirm that the black versions were generally all basswood, including the curved top. However, according to Mr. Geoff Knapp (see source on article) he states that some black models might have had maple tops. Probably discarded for aesthetic issues, painting the whole body black. Based on the wood joints seen against the light, one can tell that the guitar is either totally basswood or with a maple curved top.

Now to answer you're question this guitar is a 2001 USA model Wolfgang in T-Purple. I hope this helps.

Reliable sources

I entered several pieces of information, anonymously (my mistake), now I am logged in. It is difficult to rely on the Peavey site, because the Wolfgang information is no longer there. I have pointed to several reliable sources. The rest I entered as a result of discussions found on the various facebook groups devoted to the Peavey Wolfgang, but only where there was direct input from Jim DeCola, the luthier in Peavey who made this guitar closely with Eddie Van Halen. Mr. Geoff Knapp of California, is mentioned in the book "Peavey Guitars: The Authorized American History." In addition to being the world's foremost collector of Peavey Wolfgang guitars, by number and models, he has also been a Peavey dealer.
