Headwaters

[edit]

I changed the source of the river from Neshoba County to Winston County because that's what a couple of sources say, including this one. But I've never been up there, so if any of you know otherwise and disagree with the sources, have at it. While you're at it, you can probably find a better picture. -- Muffuletta 22:35, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've never been there either. The link you provide is probably as credible as you can get. Tracing headwaters can be tricky. I concluded Neshoba County by looking at USGS topozone maps. On these maps, the various creeks are a meandering maze (and could very well have changed course significantly since the USGS maps were drawn). Anyhow, on these maps, it looks as though the Tallahaga Creek flows into the Nanih Waiya Creek [1] [2] in the northeast corner of Neshoba County. The Pearl River doesn't show up on the USGS maps until a few miles further downstream, after several other creeks have joined the flow. I'd give credence to an agency dedicated to the river basin development. olderwiser 23:10, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It probably should be Neshoba, it does "rise" in Winston county as that's where the headwaters start, but the confluence of Tallahaga and Nanih Waiya is definitely in Neshoba County - it is very close to the border though. Kmusser 17:40, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
