Main Event

[edit]

The main event at Payback (2016) is supposed to be Roman Reigns vs. AJ Styles. Has WWE made this official yet? 98.19.214.13 (talk) 02:15, 6 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, it's on there now. 98.18.59.229 (talk) 03:42, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

With them being the sole focus of the poster there should be some mention of what they are.up to lately in the background. Even though all I remember is facing the Rock at Mania due to stop.watching TV due to reigns becoming champ. --Ranze (talk) 22:03, 30 April 2016 (UTC)] B[reply]

Semi-Protect Request

[edit]

Can someone please put up a protection due to people constantly changing the page and spamming — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.178.88.212 (talk) 01:22, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Let's go with full protection. The vandalism is getting ridiculous and its getting to be impossible to revert everything back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.143.42.47 (talk) 01:32, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Updates for later

[edit]

I was thinking that we set up for when the protection is lifted.

For the results:

Notes
a.^ The match was ended early when Amore suffered a legit injury.
b.^ The match originally had no stipulations other than being a title match; Styles won by countout (and the title did not change hands), so Shane McMahon restarted the match as a no countout title match; Styles then won as Reigns was disqualified following a low blow, still retaining the title, so Stephanie McMahon restarted the match as a no disqualification title match, which was won by Reigns.

Feel free to update this table. JC · Talk · Contributions 01:53, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at things the protection won't be gone for a week. I think it would be better to ask an admin that follows wrestling if they could add this due to the info being uncontroversial. It also does not make sense to need to wait this long either.--67.68.163.254 (talk) 02:27, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
How long until page is unlocked and we update this properly to past tense? I would also suggest for this table that we mention that AJ beat Roman twice prior to Reigns winning the third match. Ranze (talk) 03:00, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The wait is this long because then everything will cool down. May 9. JC · Talk · Contributions 03:06, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • @SQL: please help to insert this into the article. (Or another admin can help). We have a service to our readers to at least update the results since the event is over, and not waiting a week due to an administrative procedure. starship.paint ~ KO 07:26, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please edit the "Matches" section in the article Payback (2016) and replace the section table with the below results table, change the heading to "Results". The table has been updated with the results as provided by the Official WWE website (wwe.com) and have been annotated as such. The Forbes article was used for the final match as WWE hasn't updated their final result but the result is confirmed via their social media sites.retched (talk) 03:40, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that we should not need to wait until the protection to expire on the 9th if we have confirmed results.--67.68.163.254 (talk) 03:34, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Correct, I went ahead and made this table in the middle of JC's edits from above. I left off the times as they aren't official and I went ahead and posted updated links to the appropriate pages that back up the results. retched (talk) 03:40, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Add that the tag team number one contenders' match ended in a no contest

[edit]

WWE, regardless what happens in the future, have ruled that match as a no contest. Please add it. Riahc3 (talk) 21:30, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

According to this article on WWE.com: http://www.wwe.com/shows/extremerules/2016/new-day-vaudevillains , WWE.com is referring to the Vaudevillains as the winners of the match at Payback. They call them the "victors". So the result of the match should be changed. OldSkool01 (talk) 13:33, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The result of that match is problematic. There was no result given at the time and the first reports, including WWE called it a no-contest. Obviously, they later retconned this to a TKO win for the Vaudevillains. However, we cannot simply parrot what WWE puts out weeks later. Str1977 (talk) 15:36, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Attendance

[edit]

I don't quite understand why this page is locked, but anyhow... Could someone add the attendance number? Michael Cole mentioned it during the show, during the Ambrose/Jericho match: 13,250. Dave Meltzer from the WON mentioned crowd of 12,500 with 11,500 paid. --207.253.179.213 (talk) 21:43, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reception: The event received generally positive reviews. Critics praised the event for being the best out of every Payback event that has taken place. Owens vs. Zayn, Ambrose vs. Jericho, and Reigns vs. Styles all received praise, while criticism was aimed at the Women's Championship match for repeating the "Montreal Screwjob", which critics claimed had "no reason at all behind it."
