Makeover

[edit]

I have given the article a clean up and make over, removing a lot of off topic and WP:COATRACK info and making it more well organized and concise. The lead now has a clear definition of the term with a citation and the members list is concise and uniform with wikilinks if readers want more info on each person.--KeithbobTalk 20:42, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Looks like a lot of work. Definitely more authoritative in tone now. - Wikidemon (talk) 22:11, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Wikidemon. I'm glad you approve of the changes. Kudos for all the many contributions you have made to this article!--KeithbobTalk 18:03, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fortune photo

[edit]

It would be great to get that photo that is mentioned here, with the group all dressed up like a comedic 'mafia,' and add it to this page. I'm fairly new here, and don't know procedures yet (e.g. for clearing a photo, finding out if it is public domain), but will come back to it later if nobody jumps in. unitypeace01318sda 13:48, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

I doubt it's in the public domain, but I'll look at fair use.--Iady391 (talk) 21:55, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Lacy book detailed cite

[edit]

I removed 'citation needed' from this part of the artide:

According to Lacy, the selection process and technical learning at PayPal played a role, but the main factor behind their future success was the confidence they gained there.

The citation is included in the sentence (Lacy). Someone with interest in citing that, could look it up in the book and update it further of course.

Tesla Motors

[edit]

removing the Tesla references, as they all erroneously say or suggest that Elon Musk founded the company. there are many legitimate references that support this idea, but just because they're legitimate doesn't mean that they aren't wrong. long story short, Musk wasn't even in the territory when the company was founded, rather he became an angel investor later into the life of the company. the two original co-founders were forced out of the company by the board of directors. all easily verifiable information, if anyone doubts it. Ry Trapp0 (talk) 05:40, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted. He is often credited as a cofounder, but regardless, this article is about the PayPal Mafia, not about the founding of Tesla Motors. Musk's leadership of Telsa is clearly part of the story of PayPal, whether he is a founder or simply the guy who took over the company. - Wikidemon (talk) 06:52, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- 1st statement - again, just because he is 'credited' as a co-founder doesn't mean that he actually is. being a founder/co-founder of a company isn't up for debate, there is no opinion, you either *are* or you *aren't* and, as this BusinessInsider article...
http://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-the-origin-story-2014-10
...lays out, Musk is most definitely NOT a co-founder. and, just because this article is about the 'PayPal Mafia' doesn't mean that it's OK for information about other topics - such as Tesla Motors - to be factually false.
- 2nd statement - yes, Musk's *involvement* in Tesla Motors(his leadership didn't begin in '07 - before that time he was rarely in the office, showing up once every few weeks, as referenced by the aforementioned BI article) is significant in the history of PayPal - but this, again, does not justify information within this article being factually incorrect. feel free to list Musk's involvement within Tesla Motors as being Lead Investor(true) and, later, CEO(true), if you prefer, but to say that Tesla Motors should be listed as a company that he *founded* just because his involvement in the company was significant in PayPal's history is, frankly, completely bullshit.
- i won't re-edit this yet, i'm open to discussion of other suggestions, but it is, again, factually incorrect that Elon Musk founded or co-founded Tesla Motors and there is plenty of reliable references to back this up, and there is NO justification for this misinformation to exist in this article. the main subject is irrelevant, because incorrect information is incorrect information whether it's the topic or merely a footnote. Members

[edit]

I restored the members section. What's the point of an article about a group of notable individuals if no one knows who's in the group? If there's an issue with the list, sources, who's included, etc, we can discuss it here. MartinezMD (talk) 01:56, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Elon Musk ousting

[edit]

Elon Musk was ousted by the PayPal Mafia. I think this is relevant information for the article. (Also explains why he is missing from the photo. All those guys could find the time but he didn't. Really?)
