Non-league player
[edit]Non-league players don’t tend to have their own wiki pages claiming appearances in extremely low level leagues as equivalent to professional footballers, seems like an inflation of importance. Recommend deletion. 82.1.236.137 (talk) 03:32, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
- Hello! Non-league players do have their own wiki pages if they are notable enough (like in the case of Paul Bastock), and also, just so you know, he has been a professional since the beginning of his career, and all the clubs he played were either professional or semi-professional, none amateur. Non-League football isn't equivalent to amateur football. Besides, I can't recall a single time he played for free, because "amateur" means without payment or some kind of reward – once had played for a pair of gloves, which still is professional. Kind regards, Lorry Gundersen (talk) 00:39, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
Non-League continued…
[edit]No one is claiming this player is an amateur or played for free, however any inclusion of his wiki link to the most appearances of a football player is highly disingenuous. My grandfather played football for a local league to 55, do we include his 1,500+ appearances alongside a professional player? No it would be ridiculous. This player played a few games games at professional level and the bulk of the rest for semi-pro teams so far down the footballing pyramid that we he ‘gates’ are counted in two and three figures. If the player played any further down the pyramid he’d be in my local pubs starting 11 or kick a ball around in the local park on a Sunday. 82.4.5.72 (talk) 11:26, 21 May 2022 (UTC)
