The Patawomeck is or are a tribe?

[edit]

I would expect something along the lines of "the Navajo are the largest tribe". Is Patawomeck not used in the plural? Wikipeditor 20:38, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are probably right on this. Badagnani 03:57, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree..it`s grammatically incorrect as is..it might be correct to say Patawomeck is or was an indigenous settlement.2600:1702:2340:9470:CDBD:559F:A0CF:F0D1 (talk) 01:46, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

20th century to present

[edit]

This seems to be mostly about chief Green and his son. We need sources as well as other info. Was he elected? How did the tribe reorganize/survive? What else is going on?--Parkwells (talk) 19:33, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA)

[edit]

NAGPRA can only be used by federally recognized tribes and I edited to try to make this clear in the article. Non-federally recognized tribes do have a way where they may be able to use NAGPRA, sort of, but I don't think that is clear enough in the article. I think more sources to flesh this out would help. I know I read that the Patawomeck were told that once they got state recognition they could petition for bones of the their ancestors, but I can't remember where. Plus considering how NAGPRA works I don't think that that means they definitely can considering how NAGPRA works, but I'm not sure. Any help in this would be great.Sarah1607 (talk) 21:00, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

this article is very poorly cited

There is very little evidence suggesting these people are a legitimate tribe and frankly I do not know how the state of Virginia recognized them. There are no modern attestations of the patawomecks surviving -71.61.132.17 (talk) 01:33, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
