The name Passiflora mollissima
[edit]Passiflora mollissima is not a valid name. Nowadays it is called Passiflora tripartita var. mollissima. The curuba from hawaii ( Banana Poka) is not the plant formerly known as Passiflora mollissima, but a distinct species called Passiflora tarminiana. This came clear after DNA-research. So this information is obsolete. This article has to be closed!
- Thank you for the information. I have not deleted the article, but I have moved the information to locations that reflect the results of the recent research. Passiflora mollissima now redirects to Banana passionfruit, where it says that that is now an invalid name, with references to the new variety and species. Expanded stub
[edit]I've expanded the stub article for Passiflora tarminina. It's the first article I've done so feedback would be much appreciated.
The worldwide distribution is a bit incomplete and I'm still working on sources for that. I'm trying to avoid adding anything where I haven't seen a reasonable original source for the presence of this species. Unfortunately, the literature is a bit of a mess for this particular species because of the previous taxonomic confusion. In many cases, references to P. mollissima actually refer to P. tarminiana, but sometimes they don't (especially if they are from South America or New Zealand). So I'm not assuming that a reference to P. mollissima is P. tarminiana unless I see a picture associated with the name.
The original stub translates the Hawai'ian name as "offal banana" but I haven't been able to confirm this and have found sources contradicting it.

Merger proposal

I propose to merge Banana passionfruit into Passiflora tarminiana. The first seems to have been created without knowledge of the second. Kind regards, Grueslayer 06:30, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose Banana passionfruit should be a changed to include everything in the supersection Tacsonia / curubas in spanish wikipedia. P. tarminiana and P. tripartita should be separate articles. --Cs california (talk) 05:35, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
