[edit](Moved from editor Talk pages) Hello, Any particular reason you removed the fully referenced claim that the Parish Walk is the largest race walk in the British Isles? The linked reference clearly shows the Parish Walk to have the largest number of competitors of any annual walking race by some margin. I am new to Wiki editing but I did carefully research this first. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bassey1976 (talk • contribs) 12:16, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
- The reason it was removed is because nowhere on the reference does it say it's the largest race anywhere. You're using original research to infer it is the largest by using the number of competitors. Take a look at the link WP:OR as well as WP:SYN. To make the claim, you need to show a reference in a reliable 3rd party source making the claim. There is a reference that states it is the largest walking event in the Isle of Man, so I put that in the article as it is attributable. --HighKing (talk) 12:41, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
- I've moved this discussion to the article Talk page as it involves article content. --HighKing (talk) 10:51, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
Hi, I'm clearly missing something here. The referenced page is from the official UK Race Walk website and lists all official race walks in the UK, Ireland and UK crown dependencies. The Parish Walk is the longest by double and has the highest number of competitors. I understand the principles of WP:OR but how does saying 2 is bigger than 1 consitute WP:OR? Does every possible permutation of numerical comparison have to be published for it to be valid? --Bassey1976 (talk) 15:02, 01 July 2011 (UTC)
- That is an example of WP:SYN. Nowhere in the official UK Race Walk website does it make the claim that the Parish Walk is the longest in the British Isles. The website is also not attributable - who are the people behind the website? Are they amateur enthusiasts or associated with an official organization? The website itself merely states that "RacewalkUK.com is the central information point for UK based walkers and walking events" - and doesn't mention Ireland or Crown Dependencies. For these reasons the claim is unreferenced, and why I've used a different source making a claim to replace it. --HighKing (talk) 13:14, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
