It's a pity I can't edit as it is original research, but the Paris meridian certainly didn't get replaced extensively in France after 1914: I have an undated French atlas published about 1931 or 1932 that uses it exclusively throughout. And the current French standard IGN large-scale maps ( 1 : 25 000 ) show both the Paris- and Greenwich-based longitudes. I don't have access to the law establishing the IGN but it was signed on 14 September 1940, very shortly after the Nazi conquest of France, and perhaps the Greenwich meridian was thought to be a bit risky at the time.Thomas Peardew (talk) 10:47, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
READ THE WARNING B4 PROCEEDING FURTHER
[edit]Well it did say "WARNING: Plot ending/details follow" before that, so it was really your decision/choice to read that part of the article =(.

"now longitude 2°20′14.025″ east"???
which "datum"??? ( http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Datum )
Jose Simoes 2006-05-21T16:06 UTC
Can i also query this information? There is much data (google earth, GPS readings) which says that the line is 2 20 11 4 E ,but I note that the wikipedia article on the IERS reference meridian also quotes 2 20 14 025 E.

Local meridian?
[edit]What is meant by "local meridian" in this article, what one does that refer to? Шизомби 13:08, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
Meters = yards?
[edit]"The meridian passes about 350 meters (yards) west of the site of the so-called 'Poussin tomb,' an ..."
Is the (yards) specifically mentioned in The Treasure of Rennes-le-Château? Although this is not an exact measurement (~350m), an equivalent amount of yardage is about 380yd. Nee-wom 22:19, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
?
[edit]"Indeed the exact position of Ferro was never considered to be one of the best."
that means hehahahahhahaa
What the hell is that supposed to mean? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.143.201.119 (talk) 11:41, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Requested move
[edit]- The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: page moved per use in sources (even in the links from the NGram). -- JHunterJ (talk) 18:21, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
Paris Meridian → Paris meridian – There is no basis for the capitalization. This term is overwhelmingly lower case in sources. relisted --Mike Cline (talk) 13:11, 13 April 2012 (UTC) Dicklyon (talk) 02:39, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- Support as nom. Dicklyon (talk) 05:58, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
- Comment there are several related meridian requests, see Talk:Greenwich_Meridian, Talk:Paris Meridian, talk:Washington meridian, talk:Warsaw meridian. 70.24.244.198 (talk) 04:40, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

- Strong oppose. This is a proper name and has to be capitalized in English Wikipedia. Even the dubious Google Ngram gives good support for Paris Meridian: [1]. HTML2011 (talk) 05:42, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- Except for very recently, the n-gram says it's almost always lower case. And if you choose en grams that tend to eliminate titles and headings in favor of sentence context, like here, it's even more clearly lower case. Dicklyon (talk) 05:58, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose. This is the proper name for the Paris Meridian (of which there is only one), not just a Paris meridian. Bazonka (talk) 17:04, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- MOS:CAPS says we look at sources to decide what's a proper name. Dicklyon (talk) 05:59, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
- Support – Paris seems to provide the proper part of the specificity of the concept, as Paris time or Paris cityscape, where the concept is specific but clearly derived. How are Ngrams dubious, BTW? Recent shifts probably reflect WP, as uselessly circular as that may be re WP:RS. ENeville (talk) 20:52, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose. The subject is unique, but "Paris meridian" can be any meridian passing through Paris. —Tamfang (talk) 20:36, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
- Support. It is not an open and shut case; but since WP:MOSCAPS does not rule specifically on meridians, the evidence from ngrams and Googlebooks carries great weight. MOSCAPS ought perhaps to be made to reflect this most prevalent choice in published sources. NoeticaTea? 01:37, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

Three support, three oppose, why was this moved at all? Also Ngrams and books matter only little, since this falls under house style. And the house style in Wikipedia is to capitalize. HTML2011 (talk) 20:55, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- WP:NOTVOTE, so 3:3 isn't relevant. If the move is contradicted by house style, please link to that guideline. -- JHunterJ (talk) 21:32, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- Please link to the guideline that supports the move. Otherwise nothing should have been changed in the first place, per WP:RETAIN. HTML2011 (talk) 21:46, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- WP:COMMONNAME, MOS:CAPS -- JHunterJ (talk) 21:58, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- WP:COMMONNAME doesn't mention meridians. The only two place names I could find are Rhode Island, United Kingdom NOT Rhode island, United kingdom.
- MOS:CAPS - Most capitalization is for proper names. The Paris Meridian is one specific meridian. There is an infinite number of meridians through Paris. But only one is the Paris Meridian. Compare Greater London urban area (unspecific, just some urban area related to Greater London) with Greater London Urban Area (specific, e.g. as defined by the Office for National Statistics.) HTML2011 (talk) 22:27, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- Some editors like to invoke the "only one" logic to declare something a proper name, but MOS:CAPS takes a different approach, saying: "Wikipedia relies on sources to determine what is a proper name; words and phrases that are consistently capitalized in sources are treated as proper names and capitalized in Wikipedia." Dicklyon (talk) 01:25, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
- WP:COMMONNAME, MOS:CAPS -- JHunterJ (talk) 21:58, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- Please link to the guideline that supports the move. Otherwise nothing should have been changed in the first place, per WP:RETAIN. HTML2011 (talk) 21:46, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
