New taxonomy

[edit]

Hey arachnologists: are these scorpion generic changes valid (e.g., "Hoffmannius")? It seems the authors of the work making this change (Soleglad & Fet) published their work in a journal (Euscorpius) which they are the sole editors. This isn't necessarily a conflict of interest (it's hard to get papers solely concerning taxonomic changes published these days, particularly for invertebrates and publishing in a journal for which you are the sole editor is no worse than putting it in a non-peer-reviewed anthology); however atrocities have been attempted using this method (see Hoser 2009, Australasian Journal of Herpetology, 6:1-21; http://www.smuggled.com/AJHI6.pdf). I guess what I'm asking is, are these guys "Hosers?" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Systematist (talkcontribs) 21:31, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a link to the work changing some Vaejovis to Hoffmannius: www.science.marshall.edu/fet/euscorpius/p2008_71.1.pdf —Preceding unsigned comment added by Systematist (talkcontribs) 21:34, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
