Is Wicked a parallel novel? What about Finn? --Metzenberg 01:12, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
probably original research/not a notable phrase
i checked locus magazine, a major reference for all things related to science fiction and fantasy literature, for "parallel", and the only use of "parallel novel" is for a novel that covers the same time as another, written by orson scott card. he used it as a way to describe the book, and didnt use it as a genre category or classification. the phrase parallel universe is used in science fiction. im going to watch this page and will probably flag it shortly, after checking on whether other articles close to this exist, like for parallel universe. too busy right now for more. - Agreed. I've trimmed it in the past, but it didn't merge it anywhere, as i wasn't sure if it is just the name that is made up (and maybe the concept is notable under another name), or if it was total cruft. Merging to Paralell universe might work (with just a small insert there saying that the fictional universe in a book may act as a parallel universe or alternate reality in another work). The list of examples can go.YobMod 08:08, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- The other alternate is to give it a descriptive name: "List of books set in fictional universes invented by other creators" or something equally long and terrible sounding.YobMod 08:10, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- formatted the list to actually be a list, thus getting rid of original research problem. of course, the main article for each title should refer to this fact, or be linked to an external article that confirms it (book review, etc). Now that i look at it, its a great idea for a list, but boy, to expand it, thats work.great new name for article, imho Mercurywoodrose (talk) 02:05, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- We should problably also say that franchises are not intended? Otherwise the list will be 99% Star Trek, Star Wars, Buffy, etc novels. Maybe make a section pointing people to the franchises, so they don't feel left out.YobMod 07:45, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- oh yeah i was thinking about that. ill try to do that, with link to franchise and explanation of the difference (licensing vs freely done)Mercurywoodrose (talk) 21:44, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
