  • New Pockets of Influence Emerge in Brazil by Paulo Prada, 10.december.2011 excerpt ...

João Salame, a state lawmaker in the northern Brazilian state of Pará, has an unusual pitch for his constituents: Let's split our state into three. Voters will get their say in a widely watched state referendum on Sunday. Pará is bigger than California and Texas combined—a vast state of Amazon rainforest, cattle ranches and mines that is as lawless as America's Old West in many parts. Proponents of splitting Pará into smaller pieces argue that a government based closer to home can better solve local problems. Some towns in the state sit 700 miles away from Belém, its capital ...

Unencyclopaedic style

[edit]

"Pará has attracted numerous Portuguese, Spanish, and Japanese immigrants. They have told their stories in a permanent space, the "Room Vicente Salles" of the "Memorial of the People", in Belém."
This is unacceptable, please, correct.--Adûnâi (talk) 12:53, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Foundation Date

[edit]

What is "Foundation: March 24, 1928" in reference to? It only appears in the infobox and nowhere in the article but I think it became a state when Brazil became a republic in 1889... but it's unclear what "foundation" even refers to here, whether it means the original province or the state. Either way I don't believe 1928 would be accurate. 2600:8803:8713:4A00:8D79:1C89:C92D:7C78 (talk) 23:25, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
