NEA Award

[edit]

What NEA award did he get? It's mentioned in a few places; his website, has "National Endowment for the Arts Master Artist Award 2011", but I can find no mention of him on the NEA website, and it doesn't list him as one of the "Jazz Masters Fellows" in 2011. Now found it. Search for "Pregones" at the NEA's database of grants and you'll find that, in 2010–11, Pregones Touring Puerto Rican Theatre Collection, Inc. was given $70,000 "To support the Latino Masters component of its multidisciplinary presenting program. Puerto Rican artists Papo Vazquez, (trombonist/composer); Eva de la O (singer) and Magdalena Gomez, (performance poet) will perform and participate in residency activities." So, it was a grant that went to a touring company, which probably gave some of it to Vázquez in some way. The article's "is a National Endowment for the Arts NEA American Master Artist honoree" is highly misleading. I'll think about how to rewrite that, but welcome input from others. I've removed this completely, as misleading. Maybe it's worth mentioning that he indirectly got some grant money... but it probably isn't. EddieHugh (talk) 21:52, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
