Tokyo trial?
[edit]Is this Govinda Menon the one who was prosecutor at the tokyo trial (IMTFE) ?Trente7cinq (talk) 12:58, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

CM of Kerala?
[edit]Was he Chief Minister of Kerala? I think the category is incorrect. It may be removed.--Vssun (talk) 12:16, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
He was CM of Travancore-Cochin. If the presence of his name in CMs of Kerala is jarring, create a category for CMs of TC and add there before removing. Either way is fine with me. Karnan (talk) 22:46, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
Surname
[edit]Please argue about why Menon and not Panampilly is the surname. The former is the ethnic name and the latter the family name. The latter is also more distinctive. Karnan (talk) 00:35, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
- Please understand that in Wikipedia names are generally sorted by the last part of the name, which could be the surname, ethnic name or any such names. If a bot is allowed to do the DEFAULTSORTing for "Panampilly Govinda Menon", it would do as "Menon, Panampilly Govinda". This is because the bot is programmed according to Wikipedia guidelines for DEFAULTSORT. So let's keep the DEFAULTSORT parameter blank and wait for the bot to do it. It might take few days... - I am not interested in how a wiki automaton which has no conception of Kerala naming practices tries to parse this particular name. The directive is intended to be used by humans to give directions for sorting which _overrides_ mechanical and incomplete means Help:Category#Default_sort_key. Karnan (talk) 00:07, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
- I understand your concerns. But, Wikipedia has certain guidelines for sorting the human names, we all are supposed to follow those guidelines. For the sake of maintaining consistency, we cannot adopt a different style of naming practice for Kerala names. Anyway, let's try to sort out the things. First, let's see how Indian names are generally sorted. For example take the names that involve Gupta (Gupta is a community name like Agarwal and Sharma, or like Nair and Menon) and see how it's been listed in DEFAULTSORT. You will find that almost all are listed as Gupta, XXXXXX. Would be better to follow this consistent style? Salih (talk) 06:07, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
- That is so because North Indians in general do not have a family name, only an ethnic name. The situation in Kerala is different. In situations where both ethnic and family names occur (which is not restricted to Kerala names, e. g., C. P. Ramaswamy Aiyar), I would think the family name is to be preferred. In cases where the ethnic name is absent, e. g., Mannathu Padmanabhan or K. Karunakaran, the family name is the only choice anyway. This may need some modifications of the standards as written down for Indian names, but is, indeed, the correct way to proceed. In the case of K. Karunakaran, Kannoth should be the sort key (and if the key must necessarily appear in the title, then the title should be changed to K. Karunakaran, Kannoth). - Addendum: Would like to state the same opinion on Parur T. K. N. Pillai and C. H. M. Koya Karnan (talk) 20:29, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
