Orbis Pictus Award
[edit]I felt it was important to mention that Pam Munoz Ryan won this award in 2003 for her picture book titled When Marian Sang. This is a fabulous non fiction picture book about Marian Anderson, who gave a concert in 1939 on the steps at the Lincoln Memorial. I used this book with a group of elementary students shortly after the inauguration of President Obama. During the inauguration, Aretha Franklin sang the same song My Country 'Tis of Thee as Marian Anderson sang seventy years earlier in front of the Lincoln Memorial. I do not know for sure, but I assume this song was chosen to honor Marian Anderson. Aribarn8 (talk) 20:06, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
