American English

[edit]

The first major edit for this article uses the word "kilometer" with an American spelling.  I am therefore tagging the article as American English.  Unscintillating (talk) 23:34, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why? Kilometer is a normal measure in Europe. British English, althought the British themselves don't use it yet, is more logical. So I have changed it to British English. Night of the Big Wind (talk) 23:52, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If the previous respondent will look at the template, it states that this designation "should not be changed without broad consensus."  Neither of the previous respondent's explanations make sense to me.  The argument that an American spelling is common in Europe doesn't seem to be a reason to use British English, and the argument that British English is more "logical" doesn't weigh against the long history by which Wikipedia has resolved differences of opinion such as this one, or the principle that the first major edit controls.  Unscintillating (talk) 00:29, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you use the American Google Translate, you will get an American spelling. If that makes sense or not. Night of the Big Wind (talk) 11:09, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(1) According to a Google employee speaking in late 2010, Google will not have a British English feature anytime soon (ref).  (2) There is no basis to think that Google translate was used in the first major edit.  Google translate (ref) produces a better translation than that of the original major edit (ref).  Unscintillating (talk) 16:08, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

car bombing

[edit]

I dont see how a car bombing in an adjacent town is pertinent.
