Good article review

This article is most of the way there, but isn't there yet. It is stable, and generally broad in coverage, but there are two main issues: there are several uncited statements about controversial issues, and there is a trend of recentism. Given Palermo's recent success, some focus on recent seasons is to be expected, but nearly half the history covers the last season and a half. Individual incidents such as the off-field events of the West Ham match are covered in excessive detail. In terms of statements needing citations or rewording, inferring that the referee favoured Palermo's opponents in their cup final appearances should not be done, even if it is a common view among Palermo supporters. Terms such as "shockingly replaced" should also be avoided. Any statement that could potentially be challenged should have reference cited.

In addition, an image, while not a requirement, would be beneficial. Please feel free to ask any questions on my talk page. Oldelpaso 22:43, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Managerial history

Does anybody have complete information on this?... the presidential part isn't too mad, but managers needs work. - Deathrocker 14:38, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[1]. Anyway, please leave the section as it was before your edits: they were just a few because that was a "notable former managers" section. The article was designed according to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Clubs guidelines. Thanks. --Angelo 16:46, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

When will the idiocy end?

Francis Escort proven sockpuppet of the indef-blocked user Panairjdde[2] seems to be on an endless campaign to troll this article. Put quite simply Panairjdde, stop it. It won't be tollerated... the home shirt is significantly black in parts to warrant it been shown in the image... unless of course you are going to go to the Internazionale and AC Milan articles to remove the black from their shirts as well.

I created part of the image for the third kit also, so you can stop removing that. As a blocked user, you shouldn't be editing Wikipedia, period. - Deathrocker 17:58, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

I won't comment on the blocked user part, even if it could be considered a personal attack. As regards the kit, you should know that it was discussed on Template_talk:Football_kit that the kits should depict generic information on the club jersey/shors/socks, and not the actual design, which changes every year. I would remember that you are under a revert parole, too.--Francis Escort 19:29, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Note: Francis Escort aka Panairjdde is now blocked. Ringrazi il dio. - Deathrocker 22:52, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

GA Review

I'm going to pass this article as it meets the GA criteria, just one small thing you could address for me, please:

  • In the history section, the sub-headings are there for every 3 paragraphs or so, but there isn't one for the first group of paragraphs, why not have a sub-heading there such as "Foundation"?

Other then that minor point it's a good article and is well written, well done. --Phill talk Edits 09:40, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

You're right, I'm going to fix it. Thanks. --Angelo 13:52, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

US Palermo Founding Year

Conflicting dates concerning the foundation of US Palermo. http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/palermo.html says that Palermo was founded in 1900 while I tend to believe http://www.corrieredellosport.it/sportnetwork/calcio/seriea/pdf/palermo.pdf saying 1898.

No doubt, it's been founded in 1898: [3]. --Angelo 20:00, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
But it currently says 1900, should we change it? πίππύ δ'Ω∑ - (waarom? jus'b'coz!) 00:57, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Lately I've looked around for some source, in an attempt to expand this article, and I've found there are two different opinions on it (they're described in the article itself by the way). The founding statute says 1900, but there exist proofs of the existance of the same football club already in 1898. So, it is 1898, and I'm going to fix it right now. --Angelo 01:07, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

I've read several books and articles, and the great majority of this state the club foundation date as November 1, 1900; the US Palermo official website also states the official foundation year as 1900. So I changed it. --Angelo 03:51, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

I know this is an oldish debate, but; if there is evidence to suggest that Palermo were indeed founded in 1898, then that is the date that should be used, but at the same time, mention in the article that it is commonly claimed to be 1900. Through research I've found that Genoa for example, only offically became a football club in 1897, if Palermo started just a year after that it would make them one of the oldest in all of Italian football. - The Daddy 09:57, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

new transfer... can someone plz update

captain Andrea Barzagli, has transfered to Wolfsberg despite much speculation that he would tranfer to Fiorentina. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.133.147.183 (talk) 02:06, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Neither Wolfsburg nor Palermo have announced to have finalized this transfer, so it just cannot be included here. --Angelo (talk) 23:31, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned references in U.S. Città di Palermo

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of U.S. Città di Palermo's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "struna_varese":

  • From Aljaž Struna: "Acquistato Struna dal Koper, andrà in prestito al Varese" [Aljaž Struna officially a Palermo player, he moved on loan to Varese] (in Italian). US Palermo. 4 July 2012. Retrieved 4 July 2012.
  • From 2012–13 U.S. Città di Palermo season: "ACQUISTATO STRUNA DAL KOPER ANDRA' IN PRESTITO AL VARESE" [STRUNA IN FROM KOPER, WILL GO ON LOAN TO VARESE] (in Italian). US Città di Palermo. 4 July 2012. Retrieved 8 July 2012.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 06:42, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

Shirts

the black shirt is the away shirt and the white shirt is the third, as you look in the store of team's official website. 10/set/2012 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.237.61.54 (talk) 11:06, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Lost in translation

In case people did not know, in Italian there is only the word "presidente" for both president and chairman. So for the context, since the club is a company and a club, so either use President (but in fact not similar to president (corporate title), may somewhat similar to to President of Real Madrid), or chairman [of the board of directors ].

Second lost in translation would be Direttore Amministrativo or Amministratore Delegato. The official press release on 14 February was actually Direttore Amministrativo, the official translation was Administrative Director, but it rather seem more appropriate as managing director, rather than CEO. Since CEO may or may not a member of the board, depends on the company. While the May press release, the original wording was Amministratore Delegato, which 99% would be translated as CEO without problem (same as UniCredit Amministratore Delegato Jean Pierre Mustier = UniCredit CEO) Matthew hk (talk) 16:53, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

Takeover

Need citation for bridging the connection of Arkus Network S.r.l. and Sporting Network S.r.l.. In April announcment the new owner was Arkus Network,[1][2] while in May it was Sporting Network, so it need a real citation that wrote black and white "Sporting Network is a subsidiary of Arkus Network" . Palermo in Serie D?

I am leaving this message more as a disclaimer, due to a number of incorrect changes that have been happening on this article.

  1. US Città di Palermo has been excluded from Serie B on 12 July. The club in its present form will therefore not be allowed to enter any other league other than Terza Categoria. Due to this, all Palermo players and staff members will be released automatically from their contracts.
  2. An impending bankrupt inquiry has been submitted by the Palermo players (as they have not received their latest salaries), and a decision is expected to be taken on that sense in the coming weeks.
  3. A new phoenix club, authorized by the Italian Football Federation, will be authorized to represent the city of Palermo in Serie D. The new club and ownership will be picked by the Mayor of Palermo. The formal administrative announcement has been released on the morning of 12 July and a decision is expected to be taken by not earlier than 24 July.
  4. Once a club and ownership is picked, the club will be successively admitted to Serie D by the Lega Nazionale Dilettanti in the following days.

This is exactly the same situation as happened last year with Bari, and the same (or at least similar) to in the past years with other teams such as Parma for instance.

Please make sure to have all this in mind before you make any changes to this article. Repeated inclusion of false and/or incorrect information might result in article protection or semi-protection being enforced. Thanks. --Angelo (talk) 17:49, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
