Definition needed

[edit]

I understand that this is only a stub of an article. The next step in its development surely must be a definition of the paleoarchaen era. By definition, I mean something like the following examples :

The paleophanerozoic is defined as the chron (time period) between the Cambrian explosion and the Permian Great Dying.

The mesophanerozoic is defined as the period of time between the Permian Great Dying and the Asteroid strike of 65 Mya.

I am not knowledgable enough to provide this needed definition. I must rely on those who have the knowledge.

Please note that the definition is not dependent on science knowing when a defining event occured, only that it occurred and is how the era is defined.

nomenclature - question

[edit]

Can anyone tell me why in the Archean, the Paleoarchean comes after the Eoarchean, while in the Cenozoic, the Paleocene comes before the Eocene? I understand the source words are the same, i.e. paleo = "old" and eo from eos = "dawn". This is quite confusing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.240.162.227 (talk) 20:23, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sources

[edit]

This article could benefit from better sources. Two of the current sources are news articles, not scholarly journals. In addition, three out of the four sources are from 2013 and may be outdated. The second source also has a broken link. JamesKellerWhite (talk) 01:33, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Average temperature

[edit]

With reference to the "dubious-discuss" tagging of the sentence "The average temperatures on the era were about 32-35 degrees celsius, dropping to 26 degrees at the start of Mesoarchean", I found the following article discussing temperatures between 3.5 Ga and 3.4 Ga i.e. during the Paleoarchean: https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.1500368 , which may help in the discussion about what action to take concerning the tagged sentence. I see that the sentence under discussion has been removed from the article. GeoWriter (talk) 13:42, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
