A few reasons this golf course is notable:
- it is one of the few (cheap, affordable) public golf courses in an area dominated by expensive, private golf courses
- it was designed by Jack Neville, who also designed the Pebble Beach Golf Links golf course
- Pacific Grove Golf Links has a reputation for being one of the best municipal golf courses in the State of California - it is dubbed "the poor man's Pebble Beach" for this reason
