Talk:PUBLIB

I, Karen Schneider, am the PUBLIB co-moderator (since 1996) and author of the PUBLIB instruction page at http://lists.webjunction.org/publib .
I authorized the porting of that content to this page. I am personally too busy to write the Wikipedia page (which would make a valuable entry, as PUBLIB is notable in many respects -- it's one of the largest library communities online). I copyleft anything on that page and welcome and encourage PUBLIB's 7,000+ members to enrich this valuable contribution to the Wikipedia project.

Update: "If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Publib."
O.k., Wikipedia! So noted! I've done that! Can we haz page pleeze? I no longer have edit access to the original page at http://lists.webjunction/publib. Let's be rational. 7,000 librarians agree with me. PUBLIB folk, feel free to add your endorsements. Freerangelibrarian (talk) 11:10, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm a member of Publib, and I endorse the creation of this page! (Also, to the best of my knowledge, FreeRangeLibrarian is the person who created the page at the Publib web site.)

- Ha, unfortunately this isn't a campaign ad! But seriously though, as soon as we get confirmation of the ownership - OR someone writes a new article without infringing content, here; then we can get rid of the nasty {{copyvio}} template. You might want to encourage the website owner to email permissions-en at wikimedia dot org from the email associated with the site - if no action is taken by 14 September, there's a very good chance that the page will be deleted. This can all be avoided by creating a whole new article with original content, however. Best, – Toon(talk) 13:18, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
- Who does Wikipedia consider the owner of the original content? I was under the impression that the writer (FreeRangeLibrarian) had contacted Wikipedia already. If she has not, or if Wikipedia does not consider the owner of the original information, I'd be happy to attempt an 'original page' (with her permission), but I hesitate to override the official notice which which Wikipedia replaced the content of the Publib page. - Ah rights, I missed that bit, my bad! :o In that case, if the OTRS person who handles the email is able to confirm that it originated from the email associated with the website, then the text will be approved. Just hang tight, the page won't be deleted [for copyright reasons] in the mean time. Oh and you don't need any permission to create some new content - nobody owns any content on Wikipedia, in fact there are strict guidelines against that sort of behaviour (WP:OWN). The page will be hacked to pieces once its approved anyway, since its not very encyclopaedic at the moment, so feel free to create something new and edit until your heart's content. – Toon(talk) 17:38, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Update
[edit]As the letter has not yet been received and processed by the Communications Committee, this article may need to be temporarily deleted soon. If it comes to that, that article can be restored at the time permission is received. Alternatively, any editor may create an original page using his or her own language as directed by the template blanking this article, by going to Talk:Publib/Temp. Please note that this new page must be written from scratch. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:52, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
Update - September 22, 2008
[edit]Since the issue still isn't resolved, I've gone in and completely reworded the Publib page here: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:Publib/Temp
Will someone in the higher ranks of Wikipedia put the new wording in place of all the old wording and we'll just go from there?
