What does the "SSG" in the sound specification mean? It only points to a disambiguation page where nothing seems to match... 84.101.164.195 18:47, 19 February 2006 (UTC) I don't think anyone knows. LOL--68.98.29.246 04:21, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It refers to the General Instrument AY-3-8910-derived features of the YM2203 and YM2608, but I still need to figure out what the actual abbreviation stands for ("Simple Sound Generator"?) --SoledadKabocha (talk) 04:56, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

half a gig memory?!

[edit]

On the old computer link, this computer is specced to be sold with 64 Kb memory, expandable to 512 Kb. For a 1981 computer, that's much more reasonable. Remember, the Commodore 64 was introduced only in 1982, and its memory was not (meant to be) expandable. 85.227.226.168 09:30, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nintendo development

[edit]

There is an ongoing dispute as to whether Nintendo actually produced Special Super Mario Bros. or whether it was an illegal port. Unless someone can produce a reference, I'm going to mark it as just "ported".

PC-8801 Super Mario Bros. Special is NEVER illegal port. It is ported by Hudson soft, and licensed by Nintendo. I saw Ad. of this game on MICOM-BASIC-Magazine. --118.83.5.207 (talk) 05:55, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

N-mode on newer machines

[edit]

N-BASIC on model TR/FR/MR and later is hidden but still available. Boot V1-slow mode, and then type "NEW ON 1". Then N-mode starts. If you want to boot "N-DISK-BASIC", insert N-DISK-BASIC system disk before typing "NEW ON 1". But PC-88VA has no N-BASIC roms, so N-BASIC is not available on PC-88VA/2/3. (but I saw N-BASIC loader for PC-88VA....) --118.83.5.207 (talk) 05:55, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Translation cleanup issue

[edit]

The last sentence of the "Hardware" section reads: "A part of software corresponds to YM2608 and ADPCM. (ex: Snatcher)"

Could someone clarify what this means? (Some software is capable of using the FM and ADPCM functionality simultaneously?) --SoledadKabocha (talk) 04:58, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Amstrad Monitor System"?

[edit]

That doesn't seem right. Does anyone know what that's all about? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.181.56.101 (talk) 08:50, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

PC-80S31

[edit]

The PC-80S31 was a dual floppy unit that plugged into the PC-8801. Was this only sold in Japan (as a 100V unit) or was there a US version (with 110V input)? John a s (talk) 16:50, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Official models outside of Japan

[edit]

The article says NEC US sold a version of the PC-8801 there. Did the US version have a different name (similar to the PC-8001A version of the PC-8001)? What other models were launched outside of Japan? John a s (talk) 16:52, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
