metal valence
[edit]The formula seems to assume valence 2 metals. I suppose that is fine, but not so obvious. Gah4 (talk) 05:36, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
algorithm is very incomplete
[edit]the formula doesn't work for many compounds. for example tables of oxygen balance give -100 for sulfur, where this formula would give 0. Turns out you count Sulfur as Carbon. And the formula does not work for chlorine containing compounds that also have oxygen and hydrogen. There is an ambiguous algorithm to create the 'standard' tables where by one subtracts a hydrogen or oxygen count for each chlorine present.
Overall this page is a terrible description of the computation method. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:41:4003:B7F0:B6D7:2F56:8CFA:41F8 (talk) 18:28, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
