Complete list?

[edit]

Is the table a complete list of all the players that played for the ON's? It should be noted accordingly - and ideally cleaned up as a lot of information in repeated in the two name columns. RichardLowther (talk) 23:08, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Super League war

[edit]

Most national rugby league governing bodies were aligned with Super League during the Super League war in the 1990s except the Australian Rugby League. This left them with few national teams to play against, so they arranged "tests" against Other Nationalities teams I'm pretty sure. Should this also be mentioned in this article?--Jeff79 (talk) 03:02, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm unaware of these matches. This Other Nationalities team is very much British based. I suppose the results could be mentioned depending on which nationalities the players were. If they were a mixture of English, Irish, French etc then I suppose they could be added. Or were they mainly of New Zealand/Pacific Island origin. Regarding the 1921 I am doing my best to try and find out whether this match actually happened or not. My main source, a Scottish RL book, does not feature this match but I seem to remember an online source doing so when I wrote the English results list. Southern Hemisphere players rep eligibility

[edit]

In the 3rd para the point is made that these days Sthn Hemisphere English resident players are now eligible to represent their country. Certainly that's true in NZ, but there's still a major bias (and if I'm not wrong a stated selection policy) such that Aust Nat selectors won't pick a UK resident player. I don't know a single Aust Rep who's been selected whilst playing in UK. So should we clarify this as a NZ and Pacific Islander truth ?-Sticks66 12:35, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rest of the World

[edit]

Australia played a 'Rest of the World' team in 1988 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBA6YYgjS_E); should ROTW matches be mentioned in this article or elsewhere (e.g. on the Australia national rugby league team article)? LunarLander // talk // 14:31, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think they should, yes. There was another in 1997 arranged for the ARL Kangaroos. Might be others tucked away through history too. This is the place for them I think though, unless another article is started for "World XIII" which is another team I've seen mentioned about the place.--Jeff79 (talk) 02:25, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Page name

[edit]

I think the page name should probably go back to having O and N capitalised. Other Nationalities is used as a name rather than a description. Note promotional material here: http://www.eraofthebiff.com/mm23.html, while the images may not conclusively decide the matter due to other words also being capitalised, I have not seen a lower case 'n' in use anywhere except this article. LunarLander // talk // 01:43, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I originally created this article with the N, so you'll hear no complaints from me. But really I'm easy either way.--Jeff79 (talk) 02:20, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Other nationalities rugby league teamOther Nationalities rugby league team — With evidence noted above supporting "Other Nationalities" being a name/brand rather than a description, the 'n' should be capitalised. LunarLander // talk // 03:11, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Exiles rugby league team

[edit]

I believe the Exiles rugby league team will warrant its own article, but for the time being I've added a redirect to Other Nationalities rugby league team. Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 09:43, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That appears to now redirect to International Origin Match. I think it should redirect here, and then this article should be upgraded in due course so the Exiles team/name gets more prominence (I do think the Exiles concept is a continuation of the Other Nationalities idea). I've mentioned this on the International Origin Match talk page, and maybe RL people can weigh in on that if they're passing. Stevebritgimp (talk) 01:03, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Two additional matches

[edit]

Other Nationalities have played 2 additional matches not listed on this Wiki page - on 18 August 1965 they played the touring New Zealand Kiwis at Crystal Palace with New Zealand winning 15-7. An Other Nationalities team also made a once-only appearance in Australia against a 'Sydney Colts' team. This game was put on as a curtain-raiser to the Australia vs France 3rd Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground in order to boost the attendance due to france's poor form on tour. This Other Nationalities team was made up on foriegn players from the NSWRL premiership that year plus 2 Frenchmen that didn't make the French test team for the 3rd test. The match took place on 18 July 1964 and a crowd for the double-header was 16,731. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.106.93.226 (talk) 03:17, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dominion XIII

[edit]

According to the rugbyleagueproject website a team named Dominion XIII played two matches against France in 1936 and 1937, the make-up of the team appears to be similar to that of a British Empire XIII, but possibly shorn of players from the British Isles, making it more of an Other Nationalities or European based Australasia ('Exiles') team. The Dominion XIII players were...

I've checked the Castleford, Hull, Oldham, St. Helens, Widnes, and Wigan websites, but there are still a number of unidentified players. Does anyone know who they are? Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 10:08, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
