Needs revision
[edit]I think the balance is very wrong for this page. Its not too long overall but the weighting is not good. Too much history and talk of students and staff associations rather than what it does now courses strengths. There is a page for the King Edward Technical College some older history could go there.
The pages for [Christchurch Institute of technology] and [SIT] are also not very informative so are not good models. TransControl
- Indeed the history would be better moved to the King Edward Technical College page and just a brief summary of it on the OP page. However, the rest seems fine - though yes, perhaps the strong achievements in art, fashion, hospitality, and sports should perhaps get a mention. Tartanperil 14:59, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
- I think you're right.. if we could hunt around for a model page that would be helpful... --Leighblackall (talk) 01:31, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Why it started
[edit]I'm building this entry as I get inducted into my new place of work. Any assistance, corrections and advice are of course welcome.--Leighblackall 04:14, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
how many students?
[edit]This seems quite a large page for the size of the institution..for comparison the the SIT in Invercargill's page, which has about 4000 students (similar size?), consists of only a few words.
With the structure the way it is, it could continue to get larger.. Its just that as I learn something new about the polytech, I add it in. What do you propose? That it be a few sentences? That'd be a shame, I think its sizing up to be a pretty comprehensive entry.--Leighblackall 02:13, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
14160 students
- That seems highly unlikely - at a guess, 3-4,000 seems closer. As to the earlier (much earlier!) comments, it's obvious what should be done if there's a disparity in the size off the articles - expand the one on SIT. Grutness...wha? 00:01, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
- Iirc about 8-10,000 human beings are enrolled at OP each year (maybe more?). Of course that distils down to 3-4000 EFTS as many are doing very part-time or short curses. Tartanperil (talk) 00:57, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Merge of Otago Polytechnic Students' Association
[edit]That organisation doesn't seem to have independent notability; the coverage is all local and in passing. That article should be trimmed and merged here. The article is quite promotional and includes unnecessary details like all the previous presidents, but Wikipedia is not a directory. Fences&Windows 00:36, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
- Merging doesn't seem helpful to me. Notability on the OPSA page has been improved. And as OPSA is an independent organisation I can't see how it is helpful to merge its page with its institution - no other NZ students' associations have been. Tartanperil (talk) 01:04, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
