Homesteading?
What is the basis for saying that he homesteaded his South Dakota land? As I understand it, he bought the land. -- Jmabel | Talk 20:44, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
Micheaux pronounciation?
Mee-show? --Jeffrey O. Gustafson - Shazaam! - <*> 05:54, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
- Pretty much. He apparently used the proper French pronunciation. - Jmabel | Talk 21:01, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
POV?
"was a pioneering African American author and filmmaker, and without a doubt the most famous producer of race films." (Emphasis added). This seems slightly biased. Would "and the most famous producer of race films" or "and one of the most famous producers of race films" be more applicable? Arrogant Papist 12:29, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- I believe "without a doubt" was mine. Is there even a single other contender? - Jmabel | Talk 23:14, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
i could be wrong but....
"He formed his own movie production company and in 1919 became the first African-American to make a film."
for one i think that "make a film" is rather ambiguous. did he produce it? direct it? distribute it?
and wasn't the lincoln motion picture company an all-black company? if memory serves, "the realization of a negro's ambition" was released well before 1919. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Skeletor916 (talk • contribs) 01:57, 22 February 2007 (UTC).
Looks like the Lincoln Motion Picture Company [1], about which we could sure use an article, slightly pre-dates Micheaux. Prior to reading your remark just now, I'd never heard of it.
Michaeux typically wrote or co-wrote, directed, and produced his own films. Probably did a fair amount of the distribution as well. - Jmabel | Talk 23:24, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Bert Williams wrote, produced, and starred in two movies in 1916, "Natural Born Gambler" and "Fish."
in an all-white area of South Dakota?
This needs to be changed. What is the basis for saying an "all-white area"? There is a large Native American population.Lynne1234987 (talk) 04:35, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
